Strengths: Very good sharp clear images. The digital zoom is excellent.
Weaknesses: A bit slow when using 4 mp. Also uses batteries up quick. The LCD screen is hard to see outdoors, especially in sunlight.
Summary: I love this camera! I have taken more pictures in the last 8 months than I have in my whole life (I'm 48). I entered 12 of my photos in the County Fair and won 12 ribbons! The images are really sharp and clear and I like the fact that you can either use the auto settings or choose your own settings. The only thing I really don't like about it is the LCD screen is hard to see. I like to take macro shots of flowers and insects and its hard to tell when you've got your subject in focus on that little screen, especially outside.

Strengths: Excellent quality pictures at any resolution. Easy to use and transfer pics to computer.
Weaknesses: Could use more zoom power!!!
Summary: Use it at a lot of air shows.. Takes good action shots. When set at 4MPX, blow-ups are un-real. Detail is excellent !!! A little hard to get used to at first due to it's size,(small), but it is overcome by the fact that it can be safely carried in a shirt pocket. Battery life is excellent especially with the throw-away battery..Well worth the money...

Strengths: NA
Weaknesses: The rechargeable battery will not hold a charge for longer than a few pictures. I will look for a better zoom lens in the future.
Summary: The rechargeable battery will not hold a charge. I followed the instructions for 'conditioning' the battery. The battery would go dead after taking only a few pictures (the way Kodak recommends, NOT using the digital screen in the back as that is a battery hog). Then I sent the entire camera/dock to Kodak to be checked (per Kodak's request). They said it was fine, and 'conditioned' the battery themselves. (Kodak said they had a new and better way to condition it). It still wouldn't hold a charge. Then they totally replaced the rechargeable battery with a brand new 'conditioned' battery. It still won't hold a charge (for more than 5-10 pictures). I asked Kodak to please send me a whole new camera. They won't do it. Kodak suggested I purchase a regular lithium battery. The lithium works fine, but part of the appeal of the camera was the rechargeable battery. I would have bought a different digital camera if I had known that the rechargeable battery didn't work and that Kodak wouldn't stand by this product. I will never buy another Kodak product.

Strengths: Beautiful pictures
Weaknesses: "MICKEY MOUSE" On-off switch , poor Q.C. ,
Summary: I owned a DX-3500 that worked excellent & got very good pictures @ 2 megapixels . But I wanted better pictures when I used the Kodak software to take a small portion of a picture and make a full size picture of it with no pixel lines . So I decided to upgrade & gave my camera to my 11 year old granddaughter who takes many pictures with the DX-3500 & loves it . Being the wise old man of the family & having had such a good experience with Kodak I decided to purchase a DX-4900 . I found the best price @ Amazon.com & made my purchase . Amazon delivered as promised & I got my new toy . I quickly unpacked the camera , inserted the spare battery from my camera dock and turned on the DX-4900 . Nothing happened . Just like my first kiss . Here I was at a shower for my oldest granddaughter as the photographer & my new camera would not work . So I did the next best thing & borrowed my 11 year old granddaughter's DX-3500 . The next day I went to Circuit City & bought another DX-4900 . I went home & put the battery from the DX-3500 in it & nothing . Well I played & played with them to try to solve the problem . It seems that sometimes they would come on & sometimes they would not . When they came on , they didn't recognize the memory card .I finally gave up & sent both camera's back . I am still trying to decide what to buy because my other Kodaks worked so well .

Strengths: Excellent picture quality. You can even get a good picture in pitch darkness with the great flash it has! The best software I have used yet for photos. Quick uploads to your computer. Easy to use.
Weaknesses: 2x optical and no video.
Summary: The best in it's class. It does stunning pictures, has fun and very useful software, and is very easy to use for a price that cannot be beaten. A 64mb flash card gives you 51 pictures at the highest setting. For around $150 more than 2mp cameras that do both picture and video at o.k. quality, this Kodak does pictures that will impress all!

Strengths: easy to use, easy to transfer pics to the computer
Weaknesses: lens cover IS FLIMSY...after taking 5 pics, mine BROKE and the lens would not retract or focus...basically camera became useless. Returned the camera 2 weeks ago, still waiting for a replacement.
Summary: Hoping to get a replacement soon, and am keeping my fingers crossed that the next one doesn't break. Was very disappointed with the cheap manufacture of the lens cover. For a camera of this price, they should have done better. However, I am still willing to give it another chance because the first 5 pics I took were great and it is very easy to use. Just BE CAREFUL, 'cause it's FRAGILE.

Strengths: Very easy to use.Easy transfer of pictures from camera to PC with Docking Station.Shop around for a low price.Viewing pictures on PC looks great and easy with Kodak Software.
Weaknesses: Doesn't take Mpeg videos. Lens door does seem cheap. More features buttons to press would be nice but can get confusing.
Summary: I purchased this at a store instead of on-line for one reason. I bought it at the last minute as a Christmas gift for myself. Was thinking about the Olympus C-4000 but it was a $100 more. I guess that was because it offered 30 second MPEG video capturing. This camera only came with a 16MB Compact flash card which limits you on best quality pictures or amount of pictures if your away from your computer. At home I kept uploading them to the PC after I filled the card. Only took but 20 seconds. First digital Camera I bought and I am happy with the results.

Strengths: Bang for the Buck
Weaknesses: ?
Summary: Just a note to let folks know that Amazon.com has this camera on sale for $319! $329 gets you a Travel Charger, spare battery, and carrying case. PLUS, you get a free 32MB CF card and FREE SHIPPING! It's definitely the best deal going.

(AND, you're dealing with a *reputable* firm without a salesman who won't ship your camera without rip-off priced extras, and they have a 30 day return policy.)

I'll post a follow-up once I get the camera...

Strengths: The Kodak DX4900 has a very simple user interface. Right out of the box it is "point and shoot". It is also loaded with features for the more advanced user. The One Touch download is quick & easy.
Weaknesses: The 20" x 30" print capabilities. Who needs to print something this big?
Summary: The Kodak DX4900 is a wonderful camera for beginners as well as the more advanced user. It is full of features and has just enough to be a creative photographer without having so many as to be confusing.

Strengths: Easy, simple to operate. Produces fantastic pictures. Any one could use it.
Weaknesses: Slightly fragile, not built like a tank. Could have used more functions. Zoom (2:1) is rather limiting and the digital zoom does not enhance pictures.
Summary: This camera takes absolutely wonderful 4 MP pictures! I would not hesitate in buying it again. I would highly recommend it. Owning a Kodak once again (after a 35 year absence)makes me feel good, also!

I use it to take before & after business landscaping pictures and it does a really great job. Make sure it has the features you want before buying.

Strengths: Take pictures right out of the box. Good battery life. Very easy to use. Light weight.
Weaknesses: Lens cover seems a little cheap and looks like it could be easy to break.
Summary: Four years ago my first digital camera was the Kodak DC 215 (that I still own) and I was very happy but was ready to move up to a higher megapixel camera. I chose the DX4900 and have loved the camera from day one! I looked at other brands but no other digital camera offered so much for such a low price! Every 8x10 I have printed on my Epson 880 has been crisp and sharp and has fooled my friends from being a store printed picture. The camera fits into your pocket and is ready when you are!

Strengths: WOW!! I checked alllll the digitals under $500..and by far the Kodak 4900 has the best quality and most features. The SOFTWARE alone is worth the price of admission! Quality..First Class!

Strengths: Picture quality, people's skin tone, motion pic-like mode (so you don't have to see thru that tiny rectangular space to take a pic), compact, doesn't feel cheap, easy to use for anybody, etc
Weaknesses: Optical zoom (only 6X), The connector sliding lid to the dock feels cheap,....
Summary: It's the best 4 mp digital camera on the market for now... So easy to use.....just play around w/ it. If your gonna get the camera, get the dock too. (Recharges your batteries, hook it up to see your pics on TV, Send e-mail, Print, just basically mess around. I recommend the 128 MB memory card because it allows you to take 102 pictures so what the hey...I would highly recommend this to anybody who travels a lot because then you can just e-mail the sucker within minutes after you shot the photo back to your loved ones..........

Strengths: Picture quality
Weaknesses: None
Summary: This camera is awesome when it comes to ease of operation and picture quality. This is my second digital camera. There is no comparison to my first 2.0 megapixel camera.

The dock station is not essential but a nice accessory to have along with a 128 MB memory card ( I take a lot of family pictures). It took me over one month to checkout and test different digital cameras before settling on Kodak. They have come through with an excellent product, which I highly recommend.

Strengths: Easy use for the novice, but still has all the bells & whistles for the expert. Picture quality is outstanding and colors are more brilliant than traditional film, and downloading couldn't be easier.
Weaknesses: The zoom feature doesn't compare to that of a real zoom lens. It's more of a enhancement option to get your subject just a touch closer for that perfect shot.
Summary: The price is right compared to other 4.0 MP cameras. It's compact but doesn't feel like other cheap, light weight digital cameras. The picture quality is outstanding and colors are better than traditional film pictures. I haven't purchased the docking station yet, but my understanding is that this accessery makes your outfit complete. Gotta go. Have to go take some pictures.
