1 Star Reviewbad from day 1, to horrible 3 years later
Strengths: doesn't matter
Weaknesses: the buttons require you to press them VERY hard. speaker on handset is very spotty. can't turn off base ringer
Summary: i have had this phone for several years now. the speakerphone on the handset has never been very good. it's like it fades in and out. if someone is talking to you and make the slightest noise, it will cut out the person who is talking (i presume its try to send the background noise to the other party). the quality is very distorted too.

somewhere along the way the button sensitivity became messed up. maybe it was dropped, maybe it just happened because it was a couple years old. i don't know. but for the past year i've had to press the buttons VERY hard for them to register on the display. i end up having to press each button about 2 or 3 times before moving on to the next button.

probably user error, but i can't figure out how to turn off the ringer on the base. the ringer is off on the handset.

its a horrible phone - don't be surprised if you're not happy with it. the only reason i've tolerated this thing for so long is because my wife and i never answer the phone. we only make calls if we work from home and have conference calls (3 or 4 workdays of use per month. hence the importance of speaker on the base and handset). it's christmas time and i'm going to finally replace this relic :)

Strengths: 2-line operation; page base to handset, handset to base and handset to handset; handsfree speakerphone in handset. Extra battery in base allows use of phone without AC power for +/-1 hour.
Weaknesses: Occasional static from 802.11g wireless computer network; no transfer of name/number memory from handset to handset; no call timer.
Summary: 2004-12-20 22:50:00 The VTech 20-2421 base unit and 20-2420 handset are great values.

2-line operation is easy to operate. "Soft" buttons displayed on the screen are easy to follow. 50 number memory.

Redial memory works great. Called ID display very handy.

In November, 2004, some retailers had the base, two handsets and extra battery all for $130.00.
