Strengths: Drive reads all formats DVD (multi-speed tested), CD-ROM (at 40x tested), CD-R and CD-RW (to the rebuttle of the consumer giving it 2/5 stars) flawlessly.
Weaknesses: Although not really a weakness, did need DirectX 8.1 to play some DVD movies. Otherwise no faults or problems found.
Summary: For the consumer (maguzzi) that states that the DVD-8216 drive does not read cd-rw disk, you may want to check your CD-RW that was inserted. I have one that was formatted with my CD-RW drive, and tested across both it and the 8216 DVD drive. No problems were found reading the CD-RW. Check your HW and SW before writting another review, please...

2 Star ReviewCan not read CD-RW disk although box lists CD-RW a ...
Strengths: Seems to read audio and data cd-roms - did not test dvd
Weaknesses: does not read cd-rw disk - box says it does - drive recognizes a cd format disk is inserted, but can not read it.
Summary: Can not read CD-RW disk although box lists CD-RW as supported - I bought it specifically to read CD-RW, and wanted DVD for "added value". My CD-ROM only computer in the office reads the same disk on a daily basis. No help on the web site either - I can not recommend this drive and it goes back today.
