Strengths: Slim, Plays Mp3s & CDs, Very Affordable, Good Battery Life.
Weaknesses: Hard to find Mp3 files, No instruction manual, Cheap Ear Bud Headphones, Closed Session cds required.
Summary: I purchased this Mp3/CD player over the generic brand Mp3/CD player on sale. Paid 60 dollars at the time which was 5 months ago so it was pretty cheap.

When I got it home I took it out of its packaging to find out there was no instructions rather a link to their web site for instructions. The instructions have been long since taken down and there is no support for it. So if you plan to buy it you better be able to figure out how it works. Another down side is if you don't close the session on an Mp3 CD the RioVolt won't be able to read the Disc.

It does its job but there are better Mp3/CD players on the market that are better to use, but if you don't want to spend a lot of money and just want a CD player that plays Mp3s this is the one for you.

Strengths: Locking function to eliminate accidental pressing of buttons. CD & MP3 player (that is MP3 formatted discs, seller said people buy them thinking they are true MP3 players) Very slim design
Weaknesses: Will not read CDRs made with CDdirect software. Cheap earbud earphones
Summary: The on-line support should be the first clue that there is a problem when the topic relates directly to my burning software. No matter what setting I used, I could not get the player to read the CDR I burned. I have a somewhat limited knowledge of computer functions but worked with tech-support and a computer-savvy friend and between the three of us could not solve the problem. To bad, the player is true value - but if it will not play discs, then the best deal is still no deal.

I played the same discs in a Blaupunkt car CD player, a Classic portable CD/MP3 player as well as my SONY CD-DVD player. I have since returned the player and will keep searching.

Strengths: Nice sampling bit-rate, 32 - 320 kbps.
Weaknesses: Everything else, but what's REALLY BAD is the ESP in MP3 mode - complete $hiite, non-existent. And it takes FOREVER (15 sec. & more) to skip forward from one MP3 to the next, it's unbelieveable!
Summary: My old trusty Audiovox wouldn’t play anything over 160 kbps so I decided to spend few more bucks for a famoso RIO VOLT. And… SP50 is a real disaster! A complete no-no. You would expect the company to gain some experience by now and make good stuff, but they probably became another equal opportunity employer. This stupid thing is going back to the store (BestBuy) tomorrow.

I do not recommend buying it. If you want something decent, get it from the big guys (Sony, Panasonic). They recently began manufacturing CD-MP3 players.

Cheers.

3 Star ReviewFunctional, Reliable, and Cheap
Strengths: Plays a wide range of bitrates (including vbr), very clear LCD display, very affordable
Weaknesses: Navigation controls are confusing, cannot use adapter to charge batteries, bass/noir setting has little use
Summary: This player was on sale when I bought it so for me it was well worth it. The actual retail price is probably close to what I paid back then. I knew the advantage of listening to MP3 Cd's and this player does it's part to help you listen to MP3s on the go.

Given the average size of a CD (700mb) one can listen to about 10 hours of music. No, it doesn't have the storage capacity of most MP3 players, so certain people won't appreciate that limitation. In my case 10 hours, or more depending on how many Cd's I carry, is good enough.

The volume level is good and sound quality is good most of the time. It only sounds bad when I use the "bass" setting, but perhaps my cheap earphones don't respond well to it. Either way it only distorts the sound so I don't use it. Sometimes when the battery is low I get some crazy distortion too. That only happens when the battery is very low and it stops when I turn off ESP. If ESP is off it will extend the battery life so I recommend turning it off if you're stationary.

The MP3 navigation leaves something to be desired. A series of directional buttons would've been nice. It's not very intuitive but if it takes you more than 10 minutes to figure out the menu then you don't deserve to own portable electronics. The display constantly scrolls through the ID3 information but slightly too fast. The LCD doesn't refresh quite that fast so the text looks a little blurred. Also, I don't feel it's necessary to display the bitrate and frequency.

One thing that lost major points for me was the inability to charge batteries. I had bought rechargeable batteries assuming the player would charge them. So now I'm the proud owner of two dead batteries. I really don't see myself using the DC input otherwise. If you don't have a CD player in your car you need to get with the times, but assuming you didn't you could keep the player running off your cigarette lighter.

I say the player is worth the money, but it's a low price. So invest the extra money in an MP3 CD player, you'll get a better return.

Strengths: price
Weaknesses: too difficult to program and too long of a wait for it to download MP3
Summary: Save your money and buy Samsung products. The music keeps stopping and goes back to the beginner track. Why don't they put MP3 software to go with the product. And let's not talk about the earphone. I hope this company will improve their products in the future. I wish I can take mine back to the store. Have a good day.
