Strengths: Price, Size, 18 Bit Panel, Anti-Burn Technology, 3 Built in tuners: ATSC / NTSC / Clear QAM, Nice cabinet!
Weaknesses: Sound, PIP is only on the PC port, QAM Tuner not as good as my previous Sony's.
Summary: After my brother-in-law bought a 50" plasma I got the bug. So I did lots of research and found that the Samsung 50xx series and the Panasonic Plasmas were just a hair below the top, and very expensive, dog Pioneer. The 5044 has the same panel as the 5054 and 5064; it does not have the side inputs like the 5054 and 5064 and a lower level of anti-glare coating. So if you have an issue with glare then this unit may not be for you. The room I have this in does not have an issue with glare and this TV looks GREAT! I like the Samsung menus and there are a lot of options. I love this unit and highly recommend it! I only have 2 complaints. 1. The QAM tuner in this TV is a bit weak. It sometimes re-boots the TV when it gets a QAM signal it does not like. I went over this with Samsung and they claim it’s the cable companies fault, but my old Sony TV's QAM tuner never had an issue with my cable signal. 2. The sound is just ok, you have to crank it a bit to hear the voices, but I have a surround system so this is a minor issue.

Strengths: Picture Quality, excellent picture control when using HDMI input with DNIE disabled
Weaknesses: Screen more reflective than other plasmas that I considered
Summary: I believe this was an excellent purchase for $950 after tax!! Called Samsung prior and determined that it had the same specs as the HP-T5054 which was priced much higher. The reflectivity of the screen is only a problem during the daytime and when viewing the TV at an angle....direct view is not an issue.

Strengths: Large size, clarity, rich colors, space saving
Weaknesses: Heavy over 100 lbs, no output ports on the side or front, glare in heavily lighted rooms
Summary: 2007-12-02 02:45:37 The Samsung HP-T5044 50" Plasma TV is a excellent Plasma TV for the living room or bed room.
The TV has been mostly used for gaming on a XBOX 360 and PS3.
At 720p, video is clear and the colors are rich. There has been no evidence of ghosting or artifacts.
Watching movies have been a great experience. The TV is able to produce terrific colors and deep dark colors.
There are many ports on the back of the TV including HDMI, component, composite, audio and a built in HDTV tuner. It would have been better if there were output ports on the side or front.
Overall a excellent TV for movies and videogames.

Strengths: Picture quality, price, reliability, and size.
Weaknesses: Sound is only mediocre.
Summary: Video is very clear and the colors are rich. I have been using the unit for 3 months and have been very satisfied. I have been watching movies with an HD-DVD player and it has been a great experience. Also have it hooked up to an DTV HD DVR and it produces fantastic colors. Wish there were outputs on the side as well. Sound could also be better as well as anti-glare. But for the price ($1000 out the door), I am 100% satisfied. No problems whatsoever on the performance end. Overall an excellent TV.

Strengths: Picture Size, Low Price, Great Features (Anti-Burn Technology, 3 built-in tuners, Plenty of inputs), Great Clarity with vibrant colors.
Weaknesses: No side inputs, and weak anti-glare coating
Summary: I got this for $900.00 from FRY's, and am very very happy with this unit. I love the 50" size, and yet am able to hang this on the wall (with a wall mount). The Picture quality is awesome when watching using an up-converting DVD player @720P using HDMI cable, and HD TV. SD picture also looks good, and I have not tried a HD or Blue-Ray DVD player. There are plenty of inputs, and you can even connect a PC with the VGA cable.
The cons: To prevent Image retention, you may have to follow a burn-in process (just google, and you'll find more information). The Ant-Glare coating could have been better. The sound is a little weak.

Strengths: Low price, great picture quality
Weaknesses: Weak sound, glare
Summary: Bought this after comparing with the more expensive 54 and 64 series. Only differences are one less HDMI input, less anti-glare coating, no memory card slot, and slight change in appearance (straight bezel vs curved). For a few hundred dollars less, I can live with that.
As far as picture quality, since I plan to sit 14 feet away this is comparable to the 1080p ones and even better. Don't believe me? Just go to the store and look at the best 720p plasma out there, the Pioneer which looks better than some of the 1080p HD TVs side by side. The Samsung, ranks up there but you don't have to pay a premium (paid $972 after taxes with the BB HD Promo).
No complaint about the picture quality. However, the sound volume has to be adjusted past midpoint (15-20) to hear well. I have this hooked up to a HT system so this is not much of a problem. Actually it has an advantage in that the rest of the family is not disturbed in the other with the low sound setting when the TV is turned on.
The glare can be a factor in a bright room so if this is a problem, I recommend paying $2-500 more for the upper end ones (-54, -64, -84) series which have better anti-glare coating or go for another brand.
This TV fits my need. Basically, great low price (too bad many retailers don't carry this model any more or ran out of stock), 50" (once you go bigger, you don't want to go back to smaller), 720p (you can't tell the difference to 1080p unless you are about 4 feet away), 2 HDMI port: 1 to HD-DVD player, other to Dish HD-PVR. I don't play games so don't need another port or need a memory card slot to view pictures.
I guess retailers don't make much money from this model because it has all the goods but without the bells and whistles that the other models have which they can charge a premium. If you can find this TV at a good price, I highly recommend getting it. Save the rest of your money for a few years down the road and you can buy a bigger and/or higher res TV, but you won't be disappointed in this one.
