Strengths: Crystal clear HD, Attractive bezel and stand, Some nifty functions on the remote
Weaknesses: Audio out is fixed, CC is automatic with the sound muted
Summary: 2008-04-26 08:13:14 This TV replaces a four year old 32" Panasonic HD CRT set. I have read previously that a CRT picture is hard to beat, especially with LCD technology but, I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. I really didn't expect the HD images to be quite as good but, if anything, the Toshiba matches up to or exceeds the Panasonic picture.

Other reviews I've read on this set indicated some are disappointed with the SD picture quality. My comment would be - garbage in/garbage out. In other words, the SD picture provided is going to be only as good as the original programming provided by the cable or satellite provider. I find that certain SD channels are nearly as good as the Hi-Def stuff (ESPN, A&E, FSN, AMC to name a few). Case in point is when watching a golf tournament in HD. The picture provided by the tower cameras and especially the blimp shots are incredible because they are being shot with HD cameras. Then compare to the picture from the hand held cameras being carried around by individual cameramen on the course . Awful (in comparison)... The same holds true with a NASCAR race - the pictures provided by the fixed track cameras are superb but the in-car camera shots are pathetic (again, in comparison).

I think the bottom line on SD is that if the programming is being shot in HD (and you're watching on an SD cable channel) or has been digitally remastered, it is going to look very good on this set. Old TV shows and movies transmitted in their original format will be fair to poor. JMHO

Remember too that when going to a larger set as I have done, 480 lines on a 27" or 32" set are going to look better than 480 lines on a 42" or larger set. Only makes sense that the same number of lines spread across a larger area are going to look worse - no?

I find the remote very user friendly - especially all the "Channel Browser" functions. Included are "Favorites", "History", "Ant." and "Input". Use of these features makes finding specific channels a breeze, eliminates fumbling with the number buttons and avoids the necessary delay when switching channels.

I have a surround sound system hooked up and have always used the system to supplement the TV sound. Maybe it's just me but I like to hear sound coming directly from the TV and the surround sound adding a measure of depth to audio. The combination sounds best to me - so, I was a bit disappointed to find that the audio output is fixed. With my Panasonic set, adjusting the volume on the set (or muting the sound) also adjusted the surround sound system audio level. With the fixed output, I have to adjust the surround each time I change the TV sound level. Trivial but a bit of a pain -

The only other negative on the set would be the Mute feature - there is a "Half-mute" option that I use frequently - nice for use when the commercials come on. The full Mute however initiates the closed captioning banner (which blocks a portion of the picture) and this cannot be changed - Toshiba decided that turning the sound off would automatically initiate the CC. If you don't like it - Toshiba suggests that you turn the sound down to "0" instead of using the Mute feature. Sounds silly to me but that's the way they did it.

All in all though, I give this set a 9.8 rating. For the price (and there have been some great sale prices lately), I don't think you can come close with any other set.

Strengths: picture quality is great, price is very reasonable and the black color looking is gorgeous.
Weaknesses: none so far
Summary: I purchased this HDTV from amazon a week ago. This is my first HDTV, and I love it so far. Its looking is very beautiful and the picture is good but not excellent even just out of the box. The picture quality is great after you tune it. the sound quality is also very good, but not lound enough. You can always use a speaker if you are too into the sound. You really coundnot tell the difference between Song and Samsung, but it comes with a lower price. Anyway, I am very happy about this purchase. I am highly recommending this TV to everyone who want one.

Strengths: -Deep Blacks -Vibrant Colors -Beautiful television overall
Weaknesses: The only weakness I can think of is that it can look a little distorted with watching regular SD channels. Definitely not a problem with HD!
Summary: This TV is just incredible. I got it at a great price on Amazon.com a week ago, and now the price got even lower! For those of you interested in the 1080p version of this TV, go to your local major electronic store and try to compare them. I did, and couldn't view any major differences.

Strengths: Picture quality, view angle and ease of use
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I wanted a large-screen TV for the basement not only for movies but also XBOX360; the latter steered me towards LCD models vice plasma. I purchased this model after consulting Consumer Reports and neighbors. Everyone who I talked to that owned a REGZA were very happy with the performance. We have checked out the picture quality using XBOX360, PS2 and Wii games as well as standard definition DVDs and over-the-air broadcase analog TV signals. Overall I have been impressed with the picture quality. Finally the sound quality from the TV speaker is more than acceptable.

Strengths: Attractive Design, great picture
Weaknesses: None so far
Summary: I purchased this TV from Amazon after spending a considerable amount of time reading reviews of various LCD TV's. I have been using the TV for a week. During this time I have viewed SD broadcasts from satellite and cable. I am impressed that most channels from satellite and cable are very crisp and clear. I was concerned that SD broadcasts would look poor, I shouldn't have worried because most channels look great. Some channels do look better than others but I think this is a function of the equipment the broadcaster is using rather than the TV. I have a Nintendo Wii hooked up to the TV and the games look great. So, all things considered I think this TV offers alot of bang for the buck in the 42 inch screen size category.

Summary: Great TV. Bought this through an amazon price reduction. Amazing picture, I really can't believe the difference between this and the non HD. We have the sony bravia 42" as well and this is just as good if not better for $400 less. Definitely a good buy

Strengths: Bright colors, good contrast, good menu layout, speakers are good, crisp sound and fills the room,
Weaknesses: VGA in for pc's is limited to 3 diff resolutions (4:3 only), universal remote does not work with my VCR/DVD combo
Summary: overall i think this is a very good tv. in its price bracket, you probably get the most features and quality for your money.

sd tv looks good. i wish it would auto crop and resize with out me having to pick a predefined setting.

hd is stunning, great colors, vibrant and crisp. i don't have hd cable, just get a few signals OTA. you can see a difference between 720p and 1080i. 1080i has a little bit of a blur to it.

many inputs on the back. has a composite input on the "side" but it's kind of on the back. the pc input (VGA) is really disappointing. i have a widescreen laptop, and i kind of figured that i could clone my desktop and use my laptop as a HTPC. but the tv is limited to 4:3 settings. but you can work around this by changing the aspect ratio of the movie to 4:3 and then having the TV stretch it.

i also like the physical design of the tv. the buttons are hidden on the side, so it has a clean look from the front. some assembly is required. to get the tv on its base, you have to lay the screen down on a table and slide a bracket on which you then screen in. laying the tv screen down scares me, as if you lay it on something not flat or have your hands in the wrong spot when lifting it up could cause damage.

overall i would recommend this. it is 720p which maybe a turn off for some people.

Strengths: Beautiful picture!!! Next to the Sony and Samsung 1080's in the store, you couldn't tell the differance. This TV looked just as good as the leading brands for 5,000 plus less
Weaknesses: Almost all merchants were sold out and it was listed as discontinued.
Summary: It's a 2007 model so I'm sure that's why everyone is selling out of them. Also because you just can't beat the price and the quality!
