Strengths: Includes shockmount! Good multi-purpose mic at a nice value.
Weaknesses: Not as crisp and clear as the MXL2003.
Summary: The MXL V63M is the first mic I ever purchased, as my initial budget wouldn’t allow me to pick up a higher-end mic. This mic is built pretty tough, and sounds quite good for its price range. The addition of the shockmount in this package is very nice, as you really need one whenever you use a condenser mic. If you use this for vocals, you'll want a windscreen to avoid plosives. I run this through either ART and PreSonus tube preamps, which gives the MXL V63M a nicer tone and its necessary phantom power. For better clarity and crispness on vocals, I did later purchase the higher-end MXL 2003, which sounds amazingly better! In comparison, the V63M sounded as if it had a blanket put over it. In hindsight, I should’ve invested the extra dollars for the MXL 2003 to begin with, and I would highly recommend that route to others as well. If you have a low budget or just want a good back-up or utility mic, this MXL V63M package is an excellent buy!
