Strengths: VU meter, limiter, supplies phantom power, built tough, has a real 12AX7 preamp tube.
Weaknesses: None.
Summary: 2007-04-17 17:18:33 I bought the ART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp along with an MXL V63M condenser mic in order to record vocals and didgeridoo. This mic preamp performs excellently! The tube warms the signal up nicely, adding a bit more depth to it without coloring the tone. The limiter is extremely useful, and the VU meter helps in adjusting levels so that you don't get any unwanted distortion. When running a signal that's a bit too hot, a pad switch is available. 1/4" in and out and XLR in and out make the MP Studio compatible with pretty much anything, and I've even run a guitar through it with decent results. This preamp is well-built, highly-portable, and is an excellent choice for a mic preamp!

3 Star ReviewART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp
Strengths: Neat, compact.
Weaknesses: Sound quality.
Summary: This preamp is definitely feature packed for the small size. I was a little disappointed with the quality of the warmth added by the use of the tube. However, for the price I really can't complain.

Strengths: simple, good price, VU
Weaknesses: no power on/off switch, limited functionality
Summary: Tube preamp with simple functionality. No needs for manual. Just plug your mic or other mono source (guitar), and play with output. Add warm color when input lower, but get fuzzy when too much input. XLR output returns balanced sound, and it is more stable for recording. No power switch, but for this price, it is good to have it

3 Star ReviewART Studio
Strengths: Construction, Tube, Phantom power, Price
Weaknesses: Some hiss, fuzzy when more input used
Summary: For the price of preamp you can not beat, but for the amount of features you need to question yourself what for you will use it. I tried for the guitar, and XLR output gave me better balance output signal than regular 1/4 with lowest input and highest output. Lets tube warm the signal. Gain +20 is nice, but you will hear hiss, and with more input signal I got no clear-fuzzy output. It is OK, but if you want better quality, I will look for higher models with more features ( like PAC ).

Strengths: quiet, good connectivity, seems solidly built.
Weaknesses: Too bad it doesn't have an on/off switch
Summary: I've only used this about a week so about 5 or 6 times with a single condenser microphone to record classical guitar. So far it provides more than enough gain driving my low impedance mic. I haven't even needed to use NR (Audacity) which really surprised me. The replacements for this unit (I think it's being closed out) are now priced higher at Musician's Friend, Music123 etc. and don't have the VU meter so this thing at $29.99 is a steal.

Strengths: Great sound, default settings are good for most mic situations (vocals, guitar, etc)
Weaknesses: External power brick. Not a lot of customization settings.
Summary: Musicians Friend had this for $30. Just a great 48V phantom powered mic pre-amp for my DAW. If the sales still on Monday, I'm getting another (for stereo...). I use it on mics, acoustic guitars (nylon, 6 and 12 strings) and vocals. It just does a great job with clean outs

Strengths: good price/value, Phantom power, VU meter, pick limiter, +20db switch
Weaknesses: Have not discovered yet
Summary: I am not professional musician so I never thought about buying pre-amp. By suggestions on the forum I bought it as pre-amp for my guitar. I didn't think that I would feel any benefits of it, but in fact I do like it. It lets me easy adjust level of the signal from guitar to amplifier and also limits pock signal. I I put it in front multi effect signal processor it allows me to add variations to the effects that were not possible without it.
