Strengths: Remote control; thermostat; doesn't take up a lot of space; easy to assemble
Weaknesses: No tip over protection; low heat doesn't work in automatic mode; not whisper quiet
Summary: After my old portable heater died, I was left with using just blankets to keep warm in my room. We do have central heating, but the other people in the house actually like it cold. For me, I can't get much sleep when it's freezing cold, so we went heater shopping and decided on this one.

There's some assembly required, but it's a piece of cake if you can use a screwdriver. That's really all that's required to put the stand together and attach it to the heater.

I really love the thermostat on this. If you have it set to auto, it will automatically shut itself off after the temperature in the room reaches two degrees above your desired temperature. It turns back on again after the temprature is one degree lower than your desired setting.

It's also nice to have the oscillation since it helps to heat up the room more evenly and more quickly than just having it point in one direction the whole time.

It has a high and a low heat setting. I mostly just keep it on high because automatic mode doesn't work with the low heat setting.

The heater has a built in timer, but I've never used it since I just keep it in automatic mode when I have it on. So I don't know how well the timer works.

The Lasko 5395 doesn't have tip over protection, so it won't shut off if it does happen to get knocked over. But it does have an automatic overheat protection, so that might kick in if it gets knocked over and gets hot enough.

If you're looking for a whisper quiet heater for someone who's a light sleeper, this might not be the best heater to get. Compared to the last heater I owned, this is a little louder, but still relatively quiet compared to a cheap electric fan. I've gotten used to the noise myself, so it doesn't really bother me when it comes on while I'm sleeping anymore.

Overall, it's a great heater. Pretty good features for the price.

3 Star Reviewgood heater
Strengths: auto-shut off when reaches at the desired temperature setting, the temperature setting can be changed with remote control, revolving
Weaknesses: little bit noisy
Summary: 2008-02-08 12:25:18 I purchased this heater for two reasons, i.e auto shut off feature at the desired temperature and the price.

It keeps warmth my small bed room and living room (of size 14 X 11). For the price it is a good heater. It has lowered my gas bill. It is good for someone who does not bother with the fan like noise while sleeping.
