Strengths: Seemingly unlimited storage. Good battery life.
Weaknesses: Finicky buttons.
Summary: For optimum use you need to sort your music into directories. Playback sounds great but the control buttons are slow or non-responsive at times. Transfer can also take a long time if you are bulk transferring files. it offers many desirable features but does not control well- I would not reccomend for the impatient.

Strengths: LARGE CAPACITY STORAGE,TRANSFER DEVICE,EASE OF USE
Weaknesses: SIZE,BATTERY PLAY LIFE,EASE OF USE
Summary: This is a good product. I feel that it may have been rushed into production and therefore was not well thought out. It is a very clumsy size and options for buying extra batteries, etc... were non-existant last I checked (Earth to D-Link, I was trying to spend more money!), and reaction time is somewhat slow... kinda like a dinosour, large capacity with a small brain. On the positive it has been very dependable, it is basically very easy to use. It also interfaces easily with my computer (XP).The sound is good for a portable. Buy headphones, save these for emergencies.I give it a B to B+.

Strengths: NA
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: The D-Link ROQ-It is one of the better MP3 players out there. Despite the bashing from the previous two reviewers...if it were really that bad, why don't you get an old Rio from a few years back? I think that they didn't really know how to rate a product properly.

I've had the ROQ-It for around five months now and it does its job solidly.

Strengths: Nice blue backlight, large lettering, good-sized screen, anti-shock system, easy software setup, small rechargable A/C pack, the 10GB hard drive, and the option of using any hard drive that will fit in the back compartment should you need to change the standard one at any time (though this voids the warranty). The carrying case is also quite good.

Weaknesses: Size is somewhat too large and bulky, battery life should have been longer, file organization could have been more efficient, and aesthetically, it's not the prettiest MP3 player out there. Better-designed buttons and a "lock" option for accidentally touching buttons (that is, so that the player will still be playing your song(s) but touching buttons wouldn't affect it).

As others have noticed, the equalizer could have been better; among other things the bass should have been stronger.

Overall: A good, solid player at a solid price. Recommended.

P.S. I got the ROQ-It this past Christmas as a gift. Even with the current influx of MP3 players out there, this one still holds its own quite well.

Strengths: 10 gigabyte drive and a pretty indiglo display
Weaknesses: TERRIBLE sound quality
Summary: It's a waste of such a large memory capacity to combine it such poor sound. No bass whatsoever. This is also an incredibly bulky player... You wouldn't want this with you at the gym.

Strengths: Lots of storage for the price.
Weaknesses: See summary
Summary: Can't pick songs and enter them into a queue at the player. You must use Music Match to generate Playlists and then download them into the player. Manufacturer's advertising: "Program Mode allows the user to program individual songs for a custom playlist." This is misleading.

Device is unreliable. It sometimes hangs when it is counting files after USB connector is unplugged. Running scandisk reveals some files are corrupted on player

Controls are extremely sluggish. The display is even worse.

Music sometimes pauses for a few seconds during a song when processor gets behind.

Remote control is unreliable. It is necessary to press buttons several times to get the player to respond.

Bass response is very poor even with bass control set to maximum. I tried using my Sony headphones (which have excellent bass) but bass response with the Roq-it player was still poor. I tried the headphones supplied with the Roq-it on my PC. The bass response was adequate, indicating that the problem is definitely with the player. This test was performed with the same mp3 files

In order to fit well into a home stereo system, the DC adapter connector and the line out connector should be located on the other end of the unit, which would be the back. The position of the headphone connector and line out connector should be swapped.

The battery compartment door cover appears to be very fragile for a portable device.

As of 1/13/02 there was no online support for player at As of 1/1
