Strengths: Excellent quality Screen, Lighweight, Built-In Webcam & Mic., Built-In Firewire, S-Video Port, Card Reader.
Weaknesses: Major-- Does not come with Vista DVD or Drivers DVD.
Minor-- AMD Chip,
Comes with 1GB RAM which definitely has to be upgraded for the full Vista experience,
No Bluetooth.
Summary: A solid performer for the price I paid at Staples (449+tax -20 coupon - 10 for this review). Excellent screen quality, pretty lightweight for a 14.1" glossy widescreen, comes with a lot of features except for Bluetooth & Windows Original Installation Disks & Driver Disk.
Definitely upgrade the RAM & this thing will fly. Pretty good for general surfing & getting tasks done at a very reasonable price.

Acer 4520
Strengths: nice screen. webcam
Weaknesses: needs more ram.
Summary: Acer quality is hit or miss. I got a defective unit and battling with acer to have it fixed. The unit freezes for no reason. I do resest (unplug the power cable, remove teh battery and hold the power button for 30sec)and it starts working again. After this procedure it can work for days or minutes and then it freezes again.
1GB of shared memory (a bit over 700mb) is a joke. You need at least two. Screen is nice.

Strengths: price
Weaknesses: 1GB RAM
Summary: This PC (Vista) needs 2GB of RAM. With 1GB, you need to either have lots of patience or downgrade it to XP. This PC runs much hotter then intel based ones (I also have a similar intel based system and like that one much better).
But for the price it can't be beat.

Strengths: Hi-resolution Widescreen, Premium Dolby Sound, Built-In Webcam and Mic, Fast Processor, Dual Layer DVD Burner, 120GB Hard Drive
Weaknesses: No restore discs, 1GB DDR2 OEM RAM installed
Summary: 2008-03-07 17:09:48 After starting this baby up I discovered the installed processor is actually a 1.80 GHz TK-55 even though the factory sealed box sticker states Processor: Mobile AMD Athlon 64X2 TK-53. I replaced the existing RAM with 2GB DDR2 and this baby packs a powerful performance punch! With all the features and the great price, this is the absolute BEST laptop investment I have ever made! My Windows Vista Experience Index base score is 3.2
Processor: 4.7
Memory (RAM): 5.2
Graphics: 3.2
Gaming graphics: 4.5
Primary hard disk: 5.0

Strengths: - performance on data, graphics, sound
- high quality webcam
- RF receiver
- S-video - TV out
- attractive, lightweight, user friendly
- minimal software bundled with OS
- driver cd creation
Weaknesses: - Bluetooth button with no built in Bluetooth
- top panel shows fingerprints easily
- card reader will not read Sandisk branded SD cards
- Norton Security Suite installed by default(resource hog)
Summary: This is not only the best entry level OEM laptop I have ever came across, but it even puts many mid level OEM laptops to shame. If you're looking for desktop performance and functionality from a laptop without sacrificing portability, this is definitely the one to get. However, if you're looking for lots of bundled software, I would suggest checking out a different OEM - this comes with minimal bundled software, and pretty much just sticks to the basics. It comes with Norton, Orion (a multi-protocol instant messenger client), Acer's Empowerment toolbar and applications (for on the fly changes to system settings such as wifi networks, power plans, audio settings, etc.), Acer's Arcade application (which is reminiscent of Windows Media Center), a handful of games, backup/restore disc/driver disc creation software, and a CD/DVD burning application. The lack of an Office/Works trial was ok with me as I use OpenOffice normally anyways.
Windows Experience base score: 3.3
processor: 4.7
memory: 3.9
graphics: 3.3
gaming graphics: 4.5
primary hard disk: 5.1

Strengths: Price, Features, Size
Weaknesses: Lid does not Flip all the way
Summary: I just got this laptop for a decent price. So far I am very satisfied. It has built in webcam, card reader, firewire port which you usually can't get in laptops at this price range. Speed is decent with 1 gb memory which like other users mentioned is inadequate for Vista but I knew I will need to upgrade the memory when I made my purchasing decision. The only minor drawback is the lid does not flip all the way down to the other side when opened which puts you at risk of accidentally breaking the hinges. Just need to be careful on that. Overall, I highly recommend this notebook.

Strengths: Athlon 64X2 X2 256MB L2 Cache, Nvidia GeForce 7000M Video Card
Weaknesses: Needs at least 2MB RAM Memory, No restore Disks, You have to create your own OS restore disks with a utility. So be sure to create your disks in the event of an unrecoverable disaster.
Summary: At $449.90 and the option to combine purchase the Canon All-in-one photo printer PIXMA MP210 for free after rebates (December purchase) or for $10 (January purchase) taxes not included. This is definitely the best deal out there and the best bang for the buck. Price put aside this laptop has lots of power uder the hood. It packs an athlon dual core 64X2 TK-53 1.7 GHZ with dual 256 MB L2 Cache. Every core has its L2 Cache, unlike the Turion that has a shared cache between the Two cores. I have installed my flight simulators and they ran with my astonishment without a hickup thanks to the 2MB of RAM upgrade and the NVIDIA Geforce 7000M mobile Video Card.
The Microsoft Windows Vista performance index for this Laptop is between 3.0 and 3.1.

Strengths: Good looking, price, light weight, portable
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I wanted a laptop for school work which is portable and light weight. This Acer laptop is the exactly what I wanted with cheap price. It has a lot of nice features packed into it especially the built in web cam and the microphone. Since it only came with 1GB memory and Vista itself uses all the available memory, it was bit sluggish. Then I upgraded the memory to it's full 4gb and it works great now. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good high quality laptop for the great Price. Great value for the money.

Strengths: very sharpe screen, lighweight, high quality webcam.
Weaknesses: no much software come with
Summary: I have use it for a while. it is pretty impressive. performs fast. but it doesn't come with much software, even like mircosoft works which is very useful one almost for everybody. I don't know why. if you don't have this software, you have to buy, pretty pricy. except that, everything works great so far.
