Strengths: * Fanstastic color and contrast
* A multitude of customization options, for sound, picture, P&P and PIP
* Two levels of 120Hz motion enhancement
* Easy PC connections to use as a monitor
Weaknesses: * Base doesn't swivel as easily as previous models.
Summary: I shopped around for a 52" LCD for 6 months, reading all the reviews and talking to experts, as well as comparing the picture using reference source material. I also looked at sets that my friends and family had bought. I looked closely at two Samsung models - the 71F and 81F - but in the end, decided that the Sony KDL-52XBR5 was the best LCD on the market as of this review.
The definition in the picture is incredible, and the brightness and contrast are the best that I have seen on any set. BluRay, needless to say, is unbelievable. If you're not ready to go to BluRay 1080p, then upconverted DVDs look spectacular on this set also, with hardly any loss of definition or color.
Sports look great too. Watching hockey with fast action, there is no blurring thanks to the 120Hz motionflow technology. The colors are bright and realistic as well, and you can customize the audio/video/motion setting to accommodate any taste.
Those on a tight budget may prefer to get the XBR4, which offers all of the same technology, but in a matte finish, without a PC monitor connection and a 12-month warranty (compared with 18 on the XBR5). The XBR4 is on average about $300 cheaper.
I bought my XBR5 from Home Theater Store and had a great purchase experience. I got free shipping, the TV arrived in good working order and there was no pressure to upgrade the shipping. They were honest, reliable and I am now a loyal customer.

Strengths: Crystal clear HD picture
Weaknesses: SD a little edgy
Summary: The very best 52" high definition LCD. This high definition LCD displays sports and motion in great sharpness and detail. When viewing standard definition images can be a little blurred around the edges at times.

Strengths: The HD picture is spectacular and crystal clear.
Weaknesses: The SD picture can be great at times and not so great other times depending on the video source.
Summary: After spending quite a bit of time doing research I decided the Sony 52XBR5 was the best TV to get and PriceGrabber would be the best source to find the lowest price with an authorized Sony dealer.
The picture in HD is stunningly amazing, watching the NCAA basketball tournament was awesome. The picture was crystal clear and the motion was smooth, couldn’t ask for a better picture and the wife was happy. The 120Hz motion flow worked like a charm.
The picture in SD at times can be very good and other times it can be not so good. I believe this to be caused by the source of the video input not being very good. Right now I get 15 HDTV channels and the cable company will be getting more this year, cant wait and I hope their the channels I watch.
The picture for the Wii is awesome. The picture was very clear and sharp and the big screen gives you plenty of room for multiple players and you don’t feel cramped on the screen.
The speakers are ok, but a TV like this deserves a good A/V receiver and speakers to get the full effect or you will be missing out.
I would recommend buying this TV.

Strengths: Truly Stunning Picture. Good ease of use or If a techie, enough adjustments to keep you happy for years.
Weaknesses: Have had unit for 3 weeks. Can't find any yet.
Summary: Top Plasmas now have a serious rival. Motion/blur features, 120 refresh rate and many more features not available on majority of plasmas. Worth the extra money. Simply a stunning monitor

Strengths: Picture, HDMI ports, good-looking
Weaknesses: Price, remote
Summary: I don't want to repeat what everyone has been saying about the SONY XBR5... just to say that it's an awesome TV. The picture clarity is incredible when viewing DVD's and HD channels. The SD picture is not that great, but acceptable. It has plenty of ports. In addition to hooking up my DVD player and satellite receiver, I also hook up my computer to the DVI port. While surfing the NET sitting on my couch and using my wireless keyboard, the graphics look bright and sharp. The fonts are not so great, but that's probably because of my old graphics card. I can extend the desktop to cover the whole TV screen. The remote could use some re-design. It doesn't feel comfortable in my hand. However, it has all the functions that I need, including controlling my SONY DVD player. The clear plastic that goes around the TV has no good purpose. It makes it hard to carry the TV, and could possibly break, ruining the whole TV. Be careful when hanging the TV. The sound speakers aren't that great, but when you spend this much money on a TV, you should also spend some money on a nice AV receiver and some good speakers to watch movies with. But for the normal watching of things like the news, the speakers are sufficient. Bottom line, I'm happy with this TV.

Strengths: Very good sound and picture
Weaknesses: Price is very high. Takes too long to program channels
Summary: Overall this is a really great television. If you aren't concerned with price and are looking for the absolute best picture and sound, then this is the one to get. The picture is excellent, I also notice that standard definition and analog channels come in much clearer than other televisions. The sound is excellent also, probably the best you will find using built in speakers. The price has come down a little recently, but it is still very steep compared to other brands. To save a little, you may want to consider the XBR4. I don't think there is any functional difference between the two (the main difference is warranty and surface finish), and you will save about $500. The main thing I do not like about this TV is that it takes 30-40 minutes to auto program cable channels, and once they are programmed, there doesn't seem to be any way to easily jump to the digital or analog channels unless you know the channel number. Other televisions I have used take no more than 5 minutes to program the channels.

Sony xbr5 lcd 52 inch TV
Strengths: quality product, excellent picture
Weaknesses: Sony did away with the second RF connector with the XBR 5 and 6, so you cannot hook an antenna to the TV if you have cable. The event timer was also downgraded to one timer. It used to be 2 timers.
Summary: Where I live, the High Definition channels are free over the air and include channels in HD that the cable does not have. I was terribly disappointed when the TV arrived and had only one RF connection instead of 2 as in previous year's model xbr3 and 4. You can't use both cable and antenna unless you install a manual wall switch. It isn't on the remote anymore and not a part of the XBR 5/6 models.

Strengths: Great picture and audio. Awsome design and great for hanging on the wall.
Weaknesses: Big price different compare to the older model XBR4 which is not much of a different on options
Summary: TV is awsome and loving it. Must have a HD connection in order to have clear pictures. The picture is really bad without it. You have already put the money into the TV and you have to have HD connection. These two is must or it's not worth it.

Strengths: Picture quality, many setting options and input ports for any a/v setup, longer standard warranty than competitors
Weaknesses: Absolutely none!!
Summary: After six weeks of using this TV I still love to see our friends reactions when I fire this TV up - there is simply no other TV that maximizes the HD picture quality like this TV does. This is our second Sony XBR LCD TV purchase in two years and we love it even more than the last one. If you are looking for quality don't even think of another model.

Strengths: Beautiful HD picture quality, vast array of inputs and warranty
Weaknesses: None so far
Summary: My brother, sister and I purchased this television for my parents for their anniversary. It has gotten plenty of use in 4 months especially during the holidays. We have had two digital camcorders connected, a PC, a karaoke machine as well as the normal satellite, DVD, and home theatre system all at the same time for the family here for my sisters wedding. The picture on this television is absolutely beautiful. This model comes with an 18 month warranty rather then the standard 12 months.
