Strengths: Large capacity & great prices. Can shoot entire event with out running out of memory at a critical time. One less item to keep track of during a busy shoot.Great if shooting RAW.
Weaknesses: No real cons, but archival backup now takes two dvds.
Summary: I have 6 Transcend cards (2GB, 4 GB & 8 GB in various speeds) and they have never failed me (however I had another professional famous brand once die on me). Transcend is my preferred card and I recommend them to all my friends. There is plenty of space to write contact info on the back and the plastic cases are good. They come packaged nicely and the case is strong. I have had no failures in a Canon 10D, 20D, 30D, or 40D. I friend uses it in a Mark III with no problems.

Be sure to get the higher speed card if you need a longer series of fast bursts (which also varies by camera). I have noticed a difference in the slower cards, as expected, so with sports I just make sure I have at least the 133x but prefer the 266x card. Watch for really cheep ones in any brand, they may be knockoffs.

1 Star ReviewTranscend's frustrating compact flash
Strengths: Holds a lot of pictures. But this may be a weakness if the pictures disappear.
Weaknesses: I bought two of them with my new Sigma SD-14 camera. Both failed; the first failed within one month. The second failed in the 5th month. Both were lightly used.
Summary: It is unlikely that two Transcend Compact flash cards would fail so soon. Tri State Camera did not hesitate to replace the first with another Transcend flash card. When the second failed, Tri State had me call Sigma for their recommendation for their SD-14 camera. They recommended the Lexar, professional grade. Tri State is sending me the Lexar cards as a replacement.

Both Transcend cards worked for a while with no apparent problem (images didn't fade or become distorted, etc.). One day the camera did not recognize the card.

3 Star ReviewGood but still not fast enough.
Strengths: Lot of space, very good external storage device.
Weaknesses: Not fast enough to be used as a SSD.
Summary: I have tried using it as a SSD:

- if you format it in NTFS, this is so slow that Windows XP installation takes more than 3 hours to get fully installed and operational.

- if you format it in FAT32, this is 30% faster than with NTFS. However, as there is not internal cache, you will face delays and unresponsiveness while using it under Windows XP (the computer doesn't respond for few seconds while accessing the device; this is quite annoying).

As a result, if you plan to use it as a SSD, I will suggest a 266X Compact flash card. Otherwise, this is a very good external device for storing data: you get 23 MB/s, which is not bad at all.

I have sent it back to newegg, hoping to get a new one much faster.

Strengths: Lots of memory for a great price
Weaknesses: None so far
Summary: I have been using this card in my camera for about 1 month and have not had any problems. It has a fast transfer rate and lots of storage space. It will be perfect for when I go camping in the BWCA this summer. I would definitely buy this again.
