Strengths: Ease of use.
Weaknesses: Not reliable. Customer service at GoVideo is slow and incompetent at best.
Summary: 2005-02-16 09:19:36 At first, I was amazed how simple it was to record vhs and tv to DVD discs. Then it started not turning on, unless I unplugged the power cord from the wall.

Now the unit does not work at all. It will turn on, but does not record or play. You can't even access the menu.

I sent the unit to GoVideo and received a refurbished unit. Oh happy day! I get a used unit for the cost of a new one. But hold on, the fun doesn't stop there boys and girls! This pile of crap quits working too! Wow, the gift that keeps on giving! Now I have the great pleasure of forking out another $17.85 to UPS to send it to Scottsdale.

Perhaps I should paint it yellow. After all, isn't that the color of a lemon?

Strengths: YesDVD capability to put thumbnail pictures on a DVD as it records and print a simple DVD Case cover
Weaknesses: YesDVD also creates music videos of small portions of your video. Music Video feature can not be turned off.
Summary: I bought the unit for its YesDVD DVD record with thumbnails capability. The first unit worked for three weeks and quit. I had to send the unit back to GoVideo for replacement. GoVideo does not do an exchange with credit card guarantee as most companies do. I had to wait more than two weeks for a replacement and the unit they sent me was a refurbished unit. The replacement worked for just an hour and it quit. Now I have to wait another two weeks for another unit.

Strengths: VHS and Hi8mm to DVD transfers are simple. YesDVD feature is great, creating thumbnail chapter markers to select, rather than just a blob of footage on the DVD.
Weaknesses: Unit quirky at times, slow to finish operation or seems "lost" Kind of big form factor. Lacks S-VHS input.
Summary: Units features and performance are not perfect, but good enough, especially with YesDVD. Needed to transfer VHS and 8mm tapes before they deteriorate any further. This unit does the job!

Strengths: Promised simplicity.
Weaknesses: Simply doesn't work. (If it did, maybe I could cite some strengths).
Summary: this unit received positive review by Wall St. Journal. I very much wanted its promised simplicity. It simply didn't work. I wanted to copy VHS onto DVD+R's. This bulky unit suffered repeated freeze ups; it would keep "recording" for over 20 hours despite pressing stop button, "open" drawer button, and even power button. Had to be unplugged. When this didn't happen, it would spend a couple of hours recording onto dvd, yet would later read dvd as "empty", or unrecognized. I don't know what it was doing all that time. Unit is being returned tomorrow. I'm writing this as a public service, so that you don't have to waste YOUR time and money the way I did.
