They don't tell you it's no good for multifuntions until you see the box
Strengths: Good reception, compact
Weaknesses: Doesn't work for multifunctions due to 1-way communications (I assume).
Summary: I purchased this rather expensive device in the hopes that it was going to help me with the wireless set-up difficulties I was having with my multifunction. After lots of time on hold and calling manufacturers of my MFC and Linksys, I finally found out that this doesn't work if you want to scan back to the PC from a MFC. Otherwise, it worked for just printing.

The Linksys WPS54G is incompatable with their WRT5 ...
Strengths: None!
Weaknesses: Compatability & high operating temperature.
Summary: The Linksys WPS54G is incompatable with their WRT54GX (SRX) The router would not communicate wireless without a beta version (4407) firmware update. After the update, the print server would lock up and have to be hard booted in order to re-establish communication. I spent at least 4 hours per day for 5 days trying to work things out with Linksys Tech Support. With the exception of two tech support agents, communicating with the individuals was quite hard due to the individual's poor english and heavy accents. If it were not for finally reaching a supervisor and her willingness to help me, I would have never received the firmware update that was repeatedly promised but never sent. This product also has an extremely high operating temperature to the point of concern. This is not the first Linksys product that I have purchased. My WRT54GX router works flawlessly. I have taken the print server back to Office Depot and have received a full refund.

Works as advertised (almost)
Strengths: It does what it is intended to do, make any USB printer into a wirelessly-networked printer.
Weaknesses: Setup wizard is terrible if you need WEP, does not actually use G-band (it uses B).
Summary: After some initial hassles with the "setup wizard" I was happy with this purchase. However I discovered 2 things that were problematic during the initial setup:
1. If your home wireless network uses WEP, you need to ignore that step in the setup wizard, and configure WEP manually using the web-based interface before you disconnect the ethernet cable.
2. If you have a B/G access point, you have to set it up to talk in both B and G. I had set my Linksys access point to "G only" and the print server would not connect to it, even though it's supposed to be a "G" print server.

Strengths: Good product does what it says on the box
Weaknesses: Gets hot and you need a little more knowledge with Networking
Summary: This is a great product if you know how to configure your network correctly. It works well with my HP wide format printer. It does also work with my HP All-In-One but with the scanning option disable. It still works with the memory card readers. If you are sending large files make sure you have a good wireless signal strength and your printer has sufficient installed ram otherwise your print spooler will be locked and the only you can clear it is with a reboot.

Strengths: Small and easy installation. After you set the IP address you can do everything through a web browser. WPA!
Weaknesses: Runs warm
Summary: This print server is great. I received it and within 30 minutes I was printing up a storm. To set up the print server, hook it up to your network through ethernet and run the CD software (no installation of software onto your computer required). Change the settings to what you desire and save them to the server. I then connected (using USB) the print server up to my printer in a seperate room, set up the printer on my computer using a logical TCP/IP port and successfully printed a test page.
The unit is small and light and comes with velcro to stick it on the side of your printer and keep it out of the way. If you type in the print server's IP address on any web browser on the network, you have access to all of the server's settings including printing from the web using a mail server.
The unit does run a little warm and if you get close you can smell the heat off of the electronics, but it doesn't seem to effect the performance.
My setup:
Linksys 802.11b wireless router
Brother HL-1440 monochrome laser printer

Wireless fails using WPA security
Strengths: small, light, cute!
Weaknesses: Bad software, protection
Summary: DO NOT buy this unit if you plan on using WPA encryption. Other web complaints have said WPA fails with the latest firmware loads and they are correct. Set it up for WPA and your wireless connection disappears. Otherwise, it works great over ethernet. It's not hard to set up if you follow the instructions exactly. I wouldn't buy it and wait for a fix - not worth it.

Strengths: Easy set up, small package
Weaknesses: Seems a bit warm, unclear instructions, doesn't support non-printing fuctionality
Summary: I was a little nervous purchasing this to use in conjunction with my Brother MFC-7420 (which is a laser printer/scanner/fax/copier). I decided to take a plunge and take it back if it didn't work out. I expected it to be much more difficult to set up, but I basically followed the instructions and it worked like a charm. Now, I am a IT support technician, so your mileage may very, but I found it pretty easy to set up the wireless encryption and SSID, although you must unplug and re-plug the device after enabling Wireless (you have to set it up plugged in to the router). So far so good, although it would be nice to have an option to keep a secondary printer driver to operate when you have the printer plugged directly into your PC (for scanning purposes). As it is, it sees that you already have the driver installed and just changes the port setting on the printer object. No big deal, but you have to manually set up a second driver install yourself.

Strengths: WPS54G has good signal coverage. I can place it at anywhere in my house away from my router.
Weaknesses: Warm.
Summary: I have connected WPS54G to my Hewlett-Packard Officejet 4110 multifunction printer. I can print without any issue from 3 computers at home. Although the scan function cannot be used, it does not bother me. The reason is I can connect the printer directly via USB to my laptop since I have to be at the printer to feed documents for scanning. It is a small and sleek looking equipment.

Strengths: Easy installation and TKIP encryption compatibility
Weaknesses: Gets very warm.
Summary: Easy installation and good tech support. I had run into a problem with resetting the print server to its default settings. Had to hold the reset button for ten seconds and while pushing it in, I had to remove the power supply. I tried the Motorola Print Server which mentions that it can support the TKIP encryption but it did not work with my D-Link Wireless router. It only supports that encryption when used with Motorola Routers/equipment only. So far, I am satisfied with the Linksys print server. I have a Multifunction printer and have heard that not all functions can be supported through the printserver. Haven't yet tried the other functions but hope they work.

Strengths: Cisco backed reliability, easy setup.
Weaknesses: Does not support multifunction printers.
Summary: 2005-08-20 19:37:40 I am a Network Engineer by profession and decided to test the Linksys WPS54G at home because there were so many conflicting reviews. The setup was fairly easy, but for the average home user I believe it could present some challenges. Follow some of these tips to make the setup easier. If your wireless network is setup with MAC filters or encryption, disable both of these prior to setup. You can reactivate them later after you have added it to your network. Configure the device from a machine that is hard wired to the network. Do not attempt to configure the device from a computer connected via wireless connection or it could cause problems. Make sure that whatever printer you want to use with the device is setup on your computer prior to installing the print server. Later in the setup, the printer configuration looks for the printer driver to be already installed on your computer. The printer configuration automatically installs a new TCP/IP printer port, so there is no need to manually configure one. There were also some questions in other reviews whether this device will work with multifunction machines. It will work fine if you only want to print. But the other functions will not work, i.e. scanning. It says right on the box that it is not recommended with multifunction devices. I have an Epson CX5400 and the scanning function would not work with it. Epson recommends using their wireless print server with their multifunction machines (part number: C12C824221 $179.99). Ouch! There were also some comments that the print server gets hot. The specifications say it will operate up to 104 degrees F under normal conditions. So I don’t really see this as a concern. Overall this is a good wireless print server, but not for multifunction printers.

Summary: The Linksys WPS54G is incompatable with the DELL photo AIO 922 printer . I spent at least 6 hours total trying to work things out with Linksys Tech Support to get the print server working. I have taken the print server back to Future Shop and have received a full refund.

DOES NOT WORK WITH MACS!!!
Strengths: If you own a mac, none.
Weaknesses: won't work with macs
Summary: If you have a macintosh, do not buy this. LINKSYS will not support it if you call them and Apple won't touch it either. There is not support anywhere on the web for this.

Do not buy. Unable to use with Static IP
Strengths: None. Never was able to get to work.
Weaknesses: Does not work with static IP
Summary: I used the provided setup software to set the static IP address in this unit. Unfortunately after setting the unit up (I am a network engineer who works with this type of equipment all day long). The unit was not ping-able. In fact it would not respond to the arp request to map the Mac address to the IP. Keep in mind this was all on a wired network. I never even got to setup the wireless part of the unit. In any case I took a long shot and called linksys. In short their technical support (India as usual) was on the level of the village idiot. The woman I spoke with didn't know the first thing about networking, she was simply reading from a script. This unit goes back today.
Buy at your own risk.

All in one printers be ware!
Strengths: Prints from multiple computers with no wires
Weaknesses: One way comunication if you have a scanner or card reader on you printer they will not work. Set up was harder than average, with very poor help on the CD or web.
Summary: I went round and round trying to get the subnets on my Desktop, Laptop and this router all working and keeping my internet connection. There was little if any help available from Linksys.
After getting it set up it runs great but if I need to scan something I need to unplug the router and plug the printer directly into the computer.
