Strengths: Good sound clarity. Powerful subwoofer. Color coded wires. Solid receiver allows future speakers upgrade.
Weaknesses: Only 2 digital inputs (1 optical, 1 coxial). Non-universal and a too small remote control. Wires for surround speakers could be longer. Lousy blue display of the receiver LCD pannel.
Summary: I researched a lot on HTiB before finally chose this system. People at avsforums were very into it for its solid receiver. I hooked it up as soon as I received it and I was supprised with its sound clarity, even with the thin wires that came in the box. I have a SONY HT-DDW660 in another room and onkyo HT-S570 is a lot more powerful than the SONY one. For same sound source, the sound is much more clear with onkyo HT-S570 and there are a lot more room to increase the volume. Onkyo receiver definitely beats the Sony receiver and I think the Onkyo speakers are also better - at least they are much heavier than Sony ones. The center channel produces very clear dialog in the movie, but it is just ok for music. The powered subwoofer absolutely shook the house and blew me away with Lord of the Ring, Two Towers.
My complaints would be the remote control and LCD panel of the receiver. The remote control is too small to be handy and there is no backlight with buttons. I'll need to get a universal remote control to replace it. The blue display of the LCD panel looked cool when I turned the receiver on, but I could barely tell the information on the panel when I sit in the couch 6 feet away.
Overall, I'm happy with the Onkyo HT-S570 system and the price I paid. For less than $180 shipped from outpost.com, it wouldn't go wrong.
