Read More Description: Featuring convex foils and blades arced to nestle gently into the skin, together with triple blade action shaving and the added comfort of an adjustable pivoting head make for Panasonics closest shaver ever. Two foils and a center slit blade all float independently, while it's pivoting head feature rocks up and down, and back and forth, allowing the blades to form and follow every contour of your face. You can even adjust the amount of pivot based on your preference with the Pivot Action Selector. Panasonic also delivers the sharpest blades for precise and accurate shaving, now with Nano-technology. The Nano-technology was used to polish the industry's sharpest 30º blades to achieve an even better cutting performance. While the linear motor offers a frictionless shave that provides the power you need to cut through even the toughest beards. The patented motor spins at 13,000 revolutions per minute, making the Vortex one of the fastest razors on the market. Like all Panasonic shavers this unit has wet/dry technology, so it is fully immersible under water. This razor can be used with lather in the convenience of your shower, or on the go for a quick trim. When shaving is finished, simply rinse under running water. Also, for a quick and easy way to clean the razor, the Vortex offers a Turbo Cleaning Mode. Press and hold the on/off button to shift from 13,000 RPMs to an impressive 17,000 RPMs. Then simply rinse the shaver under water. The super-fast spinning blades will rush water through the razor, cleaning out hair, dust, and other debris. A Pop up trimmer is accessible with the push of a finger for grooming moustaches and sideburns. The LCD Battery Monitor indicates how much charge is available at all times. At the shavers best, the ES8101S is only in need of a one-hour charge, which makes it very easy to charge and use. Moreover, with its automatic international dual voltage conversion feature, this razor will fulfill shaving needs here and abroad. Minimize |

Strengths: Smooth / comfortable/ close shave, excellent run time, fast re-charge
Weaknesses: None, so far.
Summary: 2008-08-23 08:03:11 I have been using an old Panasonic ES-724 for at least 10 years (maybe longer). I love it and it still works great (had to replace the battery 2 years ago). I'm convinced Panasonic is the quality leader in this catergory. After a recent mishap I decided it might be time to get a new one and settled on the ES8101S. Great shaver. It cuts closer than my old one does! Very smooth and comfortable shave wet OR DRY, and so far not a single "tug". I tried and returned the latest and greatest units from Remington and Braun about a year ago because they were inferior to even my old 724. Compared to the new Panasonic, the other brands are totally outclassed in performance. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to recommend Panasonic shavers to anyone (this model or any other). I typically use it dry but occasionally in the shower as well. It works great either way. The little pop-up trimmer is also there when its needed. If you are new to electric shavers don't give-up after your first or second use. It WILL take a week or two for your skin to adjust to the totally different type of shave. For me, this was only about a 3 days adjustment period after switching from my old 724. Nothing against the unit, but Panasonic makes choosing a model ridiculously complicated. Its hard to find any accurate comparisons between the various models to see what the difference are and they now have far too many models out on the market. Some simply differ in color or purchase location. At this point in time, my best advice is too look for a model number that starts with 81 (like the 8101s) to get the latest blade and motor / battery technology. I'm sure some of this is just marketing hype but whatever the reason the nano-polished ARC foil technology and new 30 degree blade grind angle work very very well. Some other previous models look very similar but have the older cutter head and slower cutter speed. I'm sure they work great as well, but for something like this I would buy the latest model with all the new features. I think the dedicated cleaning unit offered with some models is a waste of money. You simply don't need it. These wet-dry shavers can be easily cleaned with a drop of liquid soap and tap water (as indicated in the instructions) and leaves the unit in like new condition in about 20 seconds total overall time once or twice a week. Some of the other units have different LCD displays but the exact same motor and cutter head. The 8101 was the least expensive because it doesn't have a constant battery level indicator. Again, it doesn't matter because it does tell you when it needs to be recharged and even when the battery symbol begins to blink you can get another 5 shaves out of it. It charges completely in just 1 hour and will give me at least 2 weeks of once-a-day use before recharging. The only little thing I liked a little better about my antique 724 unit was the charger. It was a simple cube that plugged into the wall and you put the razor on top of it to recharge. The new one (the 8101s) has a an electric cord attached to the cube. So you have that messy looking cord/cube thing laying around all the time (unless you toss it in a drawer when its not needed) and also if you pack for a very long vacation. I'm not sure if it can be used with the cord attached if the battery is dead. But why would you want to? Worst case, you may need to wait 5 minutes to get a shave out of it if you let the battery run down to nothing. Price isn't supposed to be a key feature for a simple product review but how can it not be? If you are interested in this shaver, keep an eye on Amazon. They periodically have a $30 Panasonic discount in place. Combined with a sale price, I got TWO of these for the same price that ONE usually goes for. I didn't need two, but the price was actually less to buy a second unit than it was to buy a set of replacement cutters and foil for the future. Even at the normal street price its a great value based on the close-comfortable-smooth shave it gives.

Strengths: Nanotech blades, Pivotable head, Close shave, Dry/Wet use, Good battery life & Fast charging.
Weaknesses: Does not have a real battery indicator, Cannot be used while charging.
Summary: I have been using electric shavers for almost 10 years. I have had Remington, Norelco & Braun before. This is my first Panasonic shaver and i have to say this is the best shaver i have so far had. I went with this model because this one was cheaper than ES8109S which comes with the cleaning system. Except for the Vortex Hydraclean system the two models are the same. I have got the closest shave ever with this one. It doesn't cause any irritation. The shaver can be used both dry and wet which i think is a great plus. I do find that the shaver does an even better job with wet shave. The battery life is excellent. With one full charge i can get almost 2 weeks of daily shave. One think that i don't like is that the shaver cannot be used while charging. Overall, this is a great shaver and i highly recommend it.

Strengths: Close shave, no cuts!!!
100v-240v voltage, can be used in EU where the voltage is 220V-240V
Weaknesses: Makes your skin irritable on dry shave (only for the first few times though)
Summary: It shaves closer than my previous Norelco (the one that can squeeze out some lotion).
Dry shave is good as well if you are on the rush (e.g. shaving in the car), it might makes your skin irritable after shaved, but only for first few time. Then your skin may get used to it and the dry shaves will be good.

Strengths: Nice clean shave. Closer than before
Weaknesses: No corded operation.
Summary: I wish this shaver would have corded operation in addition to battery. Other than that, this razor is definitely an upgrade to my previous Panasonic shaver. It is easy to clean this shaver with water rather than having to buy additional cleaning cartridges.

Strengths: Wet and dry shaving, international voltage charging, simple blade and foil replacement, lithium battery replacement possible, simple cleaning, fast charging, close shaving, built-in trimmer
Weaknesses: A bit bulky, on-off button might be easy to activate inside a suitcase, charger plug orientation (razor end) confusing, expensive blade and foil replacements, built-in trimmer merely adequate
Summary: This shaver excels at its primary mission: delivering a clean, close, comfortable shave. Wet shaving is a major plus, although shaving cream is not required unless you wish. (Do not use shaving gel.) Unlike other Panasonic shavers in its class, this shaver does not come with the bulky cleaning base station, which is a waste of space and money. Cleaning is simple enough already, so the cleaning base station subtracts value. The simple charging cord with this model is much easier to pack for travel, although the shaver should handle at least a week of daily shaving on a single charge. The recessed push button probably won't activate inside a suitcase, but it is possible unlike a slider switch. Also, the owner's manual warns that turbo mode (for cleaning) might be activated if you press and hold the button for a couple seconds, something relatively easy to do if you don't hold the razor correctly. All in all this is a fine product and recommended.

Strengths: Comfortable, wet, dry, easy to clean, floating head, pop up trimmer.
Weaknesses: None so far.
Summary: I've used Panasonic shavers for 20 years it seems like and this one doesn't disappoint. Better charger than the old wall plug in modules allows for shaving while charging if need be. I've never used it wet but I can say dry it does a great job and leaves me with no irritation nor bumps. Cleans easily nice floating rotating head and pop up trimmer does a nice job. Got it on sale at Amazon at a good price/value ratio.

Strengths: Long-lasting battery life
Very close shave
The adapter take input from 100V to 240V, ideal for international travel
Weaknesses: Too noisy in the bathroom
Summary: I bought this item from Ama-zon with very reasonable price and I have been using it everyday after I received it. It gives me a very clean shave and its trimmer is very handy for the sideburns. Although it does not have the self-clean system, it is quite easy to clean it with soap. Moreover, its adapter takes input from 100v to 240v, which is very convenient for international travel. I would recommend this shaver to anyone who is looking for a good shaver and I will buy another one as a present to my dad.

Strengths: Quick clean shave
Works great either way(Dry/wet)
Quick charge
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I used to be a supporter of razors. However, this shaver provides me a much better experience. First of all, it works great under dry condition so it takes less time to shave in the morning. Second, its flex head gives me a closer shave than the razors. Last but not the least, I charged once after I got this item in the mail and it still works fine after 9 days' intensive usage.
All in all, this shaver is a great product and I will not go back to my razors.

Strengths: Performs exceptionally for wet shaves
Weaknesses: Skin feels too dry after shave with dry shaves
Summary: This Panasonic model delivers very close shaves. The shave is very comfortable and results in a smooth skin. But it is really good with wet shaves only. I tried it dry but it made my skin very irritable after the shave. I would recommend this and use it correctly and you'll benefit from it.

Strengths: Good price
Close shave
usable in shower (for better shave)
Weaknesses: Manual cleaning necessary
loud (as its close to your ears)whinny sound
Head is larger than some other electric razors
Summary: This is supposed to be the same as the popular ES8109S razor, but sold only through Amazon, and without the HydraClean System. The cleanup with liquid soap is easy and quick. Fits well in my hand. Has some grip to it, so is easier to handle in the shower without dropping it. The head flexes, which seems to give a better more comfortable shave than other electric razors used.
