Dell E173FP Black 17" LCD Monitor w/games
Strengths: Price & size/convenience
Weaknesses: Does not work with some games. Some text not very readable, esp. labels of desktop icons
Summary: 2005-08-14 10:28:34 With Civilization 3, Cossacks 2, Halflife 2, and some other games, get this message "Cannot display this video mode" and game will not start. This is on an Advent P4 2.8 GHz PC with nVidia geforce4 MX440 graphics card. Games work fine on this computer with other monitors.

Strengths: Reliable. In 3 years never a dead pixel. I will forever miss this LCD.
Weaknesses: SLOW response (18ms) weak contrast (450:1, at first. It gets worse as time goes on). No height adjustment, only tilt. Blurring/tearing above 40 FPS in video games
Summary: Great in it's time, but faster and brighter Dell LCD screens (5ms, 800:1) are available for the same price nowadays. Slow response with games means blurring/tearing, which is annoying. Even with action movies there is blurring. I won't say that this LCD is the worst, I have used MUCH worse, but it leaves a lot o be desire, especially with newer games (BF2, HL2, BF2142, F.E.A.R., etc). For general office or web browsing use, it's perfect and affordable. Like I said above, I will in fact miss it seeing as it was my first LCD and was extremely reliable, but moving up to a better screen showed me what I was missing. Dell rocks, either way.

Strengths: Excellent product. Great price.
Weaknesses: No DVI
Summary: The Dell E173FP Black 17" LCD Monitor is a very good one, with reasonable price and great quality. No DVI is a weak point but it has sharp color and wide viewable angle. In a word, it worths every penny you invest in it.

Strengths: Great price, high quality
Weaknesses: No DVI output
Summary: Great product, 16 ms response time, high display quality, good for reading text, watching movies or playing games. But it is hard to see from an angle downside which is not a big problem.

Strengths: Dell quality, wide viewing angle, wall mountable
Weaknesses: No DVI, only a 1 year warranty from Dell
Summary: I've had this monitor for almost two weeks now and although I'm happy with the purchase (and the price I paid), I'm wondering if I should have invested in a monitor with DVI - since I hope to get a video card with DVI output someday. I guess for the time being this analog LCD will suit my purposes.
It has the typical 1280 x 1024 pixels and 450:1 contrast ratio, making viewing images a pleasure. I'm not sure what the response ratio is on this LCD, but I haven't noticed any "ghosting" while watching a DVD. I'm not a gamer so I don't know how that would look.
It is VESA compliant, so if I wanted to mount it on the wall that would be no problem. It has a thin bezel and does look nice with my other Dell components.
Overall a great product, but wish it had a DVI connection, but that would have been a few $$ more.

Strengths: Crystal clear picture. Swivles up and down.
Weaknesses: hard to see from an angle (similar limitation with other LCD's. Does not swivle side to side, only up and down
Summary: Love the display especially since i got it free with my desktop. There has been a delay in shipping these recently due to a defect in the actual stand. This should not affect everybody (only a certain batch i believe. Hooked it up and it worked without a problem. There is one windows update for it so far though. (Didn't notice a difference after adding the update)

Strengths: Very easy to install. Automatically sets the correct video parameters.
Weaknesses: Color and resolution naturally still short of CRT quality.
Summary: The Dell E173FP Black 17" LCD Monitor (17", 1280x1024, .264mm, PC) is extremely easy to install. One needs only to plug it in! Since this is my first flat screen monitor, I very much enjoy the very small space that it occupies on my desk. It requires little or no warm up time. Since I was spoiled by the extremely high quality color and resolution of my CRT, this flat screen is a noticeable step down, but I find it very acceptable for general use.
