Strengths: Slim profile and trim, small footprint, fast response time, true deep blacks, great picture quality, nice contrast ratio, no banding that I can see.
Weaknesses: No DVI input, glossy black trim attracts dust.
Summary: I had Aquous 37" before this TV. I liked that one but 42D64U is something totally different. Right out of the box I loved the sleek looks of the set. Pure elegance. Picture performance, contrast ratio and real deep blacks make the viewing experience awesome. As a matter of fact I tend to watch more TV now. Even fast moving scenes are not bad at all. There are some reviews that have reported banding issues but I have not seen any of that on my set.
I wish this TV had one DVI input since Comcast doesn't support HDMI on their HD boxes yet.
I would recommend this TV to other folks shopping for a nice top of the line LCD tv.

Strengths: Picture quality is remarkable. The clarity, contrast and sound are all totally outstanding. No issues with pixelation or banding as documented in previous version of Aquos.
Weaknesses: None to report
Summary: We chose the Sharp LC42D64U to replace our old 25 inch CRT Toshiba. We already had digital cable service and were somewhat satisfied with our present situation until we got our Sharp! The picture quality is remarkable. The picture clarity, contrast and sound are totally outstanding. We were most impressed with the sound quality of the set itself...something we never expected to be so good as we were very disappointed with the sound system in the Toshiba from the beginning. We experienced no problem with pixilation or banding as reported by some others.
We elected to mount our new Sharp on a masonry fireplace wall and chose the Telehook 32-60 Tilt Wall
Mount system which worked out beautifully. The installation was very simple with good instructions and an ample supply of fasteners to fit every possible situation. The tilt feature works great and we experience little to no reflective glare as our room gets a lot of natural light during the day. We even picked up some additional room space with the wall mounting!
The whole experience with the new Sharp was a very positive one from the efficient packaging to the quality of their product. Sharp was very cooperative in our follow-ups with them down to our inquiries regarding our delivery date.
We are very happy with the Sharp LC42D64U and hope to get many years of trouble free enjoyment from it.

Great Picture when it is in color - turns black and white while channel surfing
Strengths: Picture; price;
Weaknesses: speaker; picture - turns black and white when channel surfing. Had to try switching between channels back and forth to get it to turn color again.
Summary: Researched Song, Sharp, and Samsung and decided to go with Sharp because of the price and reviews. Had it for about 3 months now and I am very disappointed with it so far. The main issue is that it turns black and white when channel surfing...was considering the 52" but definitely will not buy it now.
There is also a white line from top to bottom on the left side when viewing some channels... don't know if the is the band issue a few reviews mentioned.

Strengths: Picture quality is excellent
There is no banding like the previous sharp aquos
Very light and thin
Weaknesses: I notice some pixilation during fast tv movement (i.e. a helicopter flying rapidly past mountains)
Summary: I own a top of the line pioneer plasma. I bought this tv during the sharp friends and family deal which ended up costing me about $1100 compared to the normal $1500. Even at $1500 this tv is worth every penny.
Picture quality is amazing right out of the box. Tuned correctly this can exceed a more expensive Sony Bravia that my friend just bought.
The only problem I noticed is some slight pixilation during fast movement. Not really a big deal because you really don't notice it much. I have not tested the speakers so I cannot comment on them.
The tv is very thin and extremely light. I can lift it up and put it on the wall mount on my own and I am not very strong. I think it weighs about 50 pounds.
Overall I love it and would buy another!

Strengths: TV dimensions & weight; picture quality, black levels, and viewing angles are excellent; speakers are surprisingly good; number and location of inputs; menu options are simple and straightforward.
Weaknesses: Remote and manual are not the greatest, but aren't awful; no PIP; possible powering on issue.
Summary: The Sharp AQUOS line has been recently upgraded to these models which supposedly do not have the "banding" issues that past AQUOS screens had. These TVs have some of the smallest form factors for the screen size; even the relatively powerful and adequate speakers are "tucked under" the screen. The stand is very strong and stable. The TV/stand assembly is very simple....8 allen screws for which Sharp has included the wrench. The manual does not really explain some of the advanced video controls well enough for a novice to learn. The descriptions still leave room for a lot of head scratching. Thankfully, most users will not need to touch these advanced settings at all. The remote is your typical multi-device remote but is nothing special. I purchased this TV at the same time as I purchased the 46" and 52" models of the same line (I guess my house should be a showcase for Sharp!). I have only had some odd behaviors on the part of the 42" TV whereby I cannot get the TV to power on properly the first time I try. After I try again, it works fine. During the first attempt, the power light comes on and then I hear a couple of clicks...which is not abnormal for this TV's startup. Unfortunately, on several occasions, I have had this TV fail and it powers down and needs to be restarted. I have noticed NO banding or color issues on this TV and the black levels are very solid.

Strengths: Slim profile, clear and crip picture, Aquos technology, high contrast ratio, good black level
Weaknesses: none that I know of after 2 weeks of use
Summary: I got this through friends & family sale from sharp direct. This is the best deal for a quality LCD TV. Picture quality is excellent. I caches all the CBS/NBC/ABC/FOX via off air HD broadcast ( using amplified HDTV antenna). I was blown away with the picture quality.
I am extremly happy about it. I will never hesitate to buy SHARP again. I have heard that there were some problem with banding issues with earlier model but I don't think this is a problem with the current model..

Strengths: (1) Great Picture quality. (2) Excellent for watching action movies. (3) Very slim and sleek design.
Weaknesses: None that I can think of. Very satisfied with my purchase.
Summary: This is a really nice Sharp Aquos LCD TV. So far, i haven't had any issues with it. People have compalined about banding issues for previous Aquos models, but I haven't experienced any with this model. The manufacturer's settings need to be adjusted to suit your preferences. For example, I prefer to set the "sharpness" to minus 4. Otherwise, at 0 (default setting), the picture is a little grainy. The automatic backlight adjustment feature is great.

Strengths: (1) Nice picture quality
(2) Nice surround sound - good enough and loud enough for me since my living room is pretty small.
(3) Much slimmer than competitors' offerings and pretty light for a 42".
Weaknesses: (1) Slow response time when changing channels.
(2) Manufacturer's default settings are not ideal... I had to play around with the settings to get a nice colour.
Summary: I waited for a month to receive this TV from Sharp. But the wait is well worth it! I can't bear to leave home to go to work in the morning cos the TV is so wonderful! It's a big upgrade from a 21 inch to a 42 inch TV for me. Love love love my TV! I will be spending more hours in front of the TV. Wish I had more money to buy the bigger screen ones... looking forward to my next upgrade in a couple of years... ;o)

Strengths: Reasonably priced; fast response time; fine contrast ratio; very slim case and nicely designed
Weaknesses: attract dust; shiny case easily scratched; tune somewhat slowly; backlight a bit uneven. corners a little darker. not noticeable in tv viewing though.
Summary: The TV is very well designed. although my enthusiasm for the tv is slightly dampened by the small uneven backlight problem. not banding though. not noticeable in normal tv viewing.

Strengths: The picture is awesome.I could not be more pleased.Easy to use remote to.
Weaknesses: speakers not the greatest
Summary: I love this tv so far.I can live with the small speakers but the thin size makes this tv great to mount just about anywhere.I like this TV more than other 52" LCD sets.

Strengths: Crystal picture, really thin
Weaknesses: Speaker not so great; Delay when switching channels
Summary: Just use it for two weeks, so far so good. It is very easy to set up the TV. The menu to fine-tune is also very intuitive. The pictures are great, either for anolog or digital channels. A lot of input or output choices are available. The speaker is not very great, but acceptable. The only thing disappointed me is, when you switch between channels, there is an obvious delay of 2-3 seconds.

Strengths: No glare in well lit rooms, HD quality exellent as well as regular DVDs.
Weaknesses: Some jagged edges in games like Madden08 (360). Picture quality not as good as my Samsung 720P plasma.
Summary: Overall this is a great LCD, especially for the price I got it for. DishNetwork HD programs didn't look as clear as I thought they would. They were actually better on my Samsung plasma and especially in football games. However the colors are a lot better when playing the 360. Picture is very bright and I love how there is almost no glare compared to a plasma.

Sharp Aquos 42 inch LC42D64U
Strengths: Thin, Lightweight, next generation of Flat screened LCD TV's
Weaknesses: Price is variable from store to store. Remote went bad after 3 days but store replaced it. I paid more $1450.50 than folks who used the "Sharp Friends and Family" offer and paid $1000.00
Summary: TV has excellent picture. Sound is average. I am generally satisfied. I suggest shopping around as price is variable from store to store.
I got a bad remote control with the unit which the store replaced. As always, if I could do it over, I would have purchased BIGGER size, maybe 46" or 52".

Strengths: 1080p,Thin,3 HDMI connectors
Weaknesses: No headphone jacket output
Summary: Great LCD TV! Full 1080p makes picture from PS3 and HDDVD very vivid and clear. It's thin and light than 42D62U. Sharp's LCD panel is the best, made in Japan. 3 Hdmi connection made enough for PS3, HDDVD, upscaled DVD player. The menu also is very convent.
