Strengths: All of its features
Weaknesses: No more than any other OS when used by in-experienced people.
Summary: 2003-08-14 20:57:09 I have read the good and the cheesy comments here and I USE multiple Windows and Linux OS platforms as well as others without problem.

This is a very user-friendly software and one of the easiest to use even for a beginner.

It is the most compliant system for hardware recognition and installation, having more imbedded drivers than any other OS.

It has been designed to become a part of your entertainment and work environment and it does so.

With over 30 yrs. computer experience I can speak with authority when I say, "This is a good product and well worth the price and time not only for a new system but even for an upgrade of an older OS.".

Strengths: stable, nice new interface features, robust
Weaknesses: needs a beefy PC with fast CPU and lots of RAM
Summary: While this OS is not for everyone, XP is a big step forward for Windows. If you are a power user, this is your OS. If you are a gamer or are new to Windows, most folks will probably be better off with Win98 or WinME.

I have personal experience with every MS operating system since Windows 3.0 and struggled mightily as an early adopter with the original Win95 and WinNT4. The upgrade to XP, by comparison, was simple and painless, made even more so by observing the guidelines presented by the hardware/software compatibility utility. I had to upgrade my anti-virus software, my firewall software and my CD-burning software. That's it.

BTW, this install was on a year-old Dell Dimension XPS 750 with 256 MB of RAM.

Strengths: The most stable OS yet from MS.
Weaknesses: Buggy and always crashing
Summary: 2003-07-29 06:29:54 When the first version of this OS first came out it was horrible and had a ton of problems and I trashed it in my review. I can now say after multiple services packs and hot fixes that MS has created a rather stable OS on par with Win2k. Granted there are still some programs that run better on Win2k but for simplicity for the common user you can't beat it.

Strengths: Easy install, Robust, had many drivers that I could not find for W2K. Stable, Worked with older HW that I could not use on W2K, or NT4. Did I say STABLE?
Weaknesses: Can't uninstall without losing data. My problem, learning the new locations for standard and new features. Cost more than I want to pay.
Summary: I did an upgrade and have been very pleased. It installed with everything working (all my existing programs), basically. I had to un-install re-install Norton. One or two minor things.

It interfaced with my network and proxy quickly and has worked fine. All video problems fixed with latetest Geoforce III drivers, and it has been a pleasure to use since.

The only really negative comments I see on this site are people who keep mentioning Lenix. Hmm a little bias perhaps. I try to be objective. You tend to stop 'hating' programs once you learn where everything is and debug a few things. Also, there are not 'over 200 versions of XP'... I have had experiecne with every version of Windows (some Solaris etc.) and while I find W2k equally stable, I like the new features of XP. Such as going back to a previous "state" when you save the setup, and the MultiMedia Stuff, and more.

I don't mind the updates at all. Bravo Microsoft for keeping an agressive approach on fixing bugs in a new product. They even automate it, if you prefer.

Most of my problems were just a matter of my going to a Software/Hardware manufacture site and uploading the new XP driver.

This has to be the best operating system I have used yet, With W2K Close behind. And while I work on computers, No, I do not work for Microsoft.

Strengths: Easily accessable by even the most computer illiterate people out there, very reliable stability, and more integration and support for more programs than any other OS out there.
Weaknesses: Security issues which have been addressed via updates, and the older MSDOS compatibility has finally been thouroughly thrashed entirely.
Summary: This OS is currently unbeatable when it comes to compatibility and stability. If you have stability problems, it's your hardware. I have been running this system for 3 years since XP was first introduced without a single format, and only one defragmentation (yes, very bad but yet no performance effected at all) and I use this system for all of my needs every single day. The reason I have yet to format is due to laziness, and I intend to do so shortly, but the fact I have run my system this long with the OEM installation and had no problems or issues with anything with MANY hardware updates says something. The ONLY bluescreen I have encountered is that of an attempted upgrade with some RAM, which was incompatible with my system and corrected by the manufacturer; no problems or bluescreens since. You Linux and Mac people don't realize that Microsoft has gotten where it is today through its programs, and this is one of them. Cursing Microsoft is no different than cursing a Starbucks for having such good coffee that it takes the business from other retailers. Capitalism: our country was founded on it.

Strengths: Compatible with everything, lightyears faster than any previous OS, INCLUDING win2k
Weaknesses: takes awhile to shut down, but its a fair trade off for the lightning fast bootup
Summary: I don't know whats wrong with everyone here that is bashing XP. I work at an IT helpdesk for my university, and we have it on all our machines. I have had it on my home PC for 7 months and NEVER had a lockup or problem, and i've switched through a myriad of software and hardware. Same thing with all the machines we manage in our office, ranging in speed from 333Mhz to 1.7Ghz.

Strengths: Microsoft seems to have gotten windows right with Xp Pro. It is smooth and precise with gobs of goodies for the power user and enough utilities to save you some actual money.
Weaknesses: Activation is contingent on registration. This is a bad precedent to set and tells me why the FED sued old Bill and his crowd. I hope other software manufacturers do not follow suit. -
Summary: The test drive for Windows Xp has been great. It seems that Microsoft has finally gotten Windows right. Even though you will probably have to upgrade many drivers and a few software programs the ease of operation for the average user working with the PRO versions will be pleasing.

There are ample built in utilities that will make even some power users happy.

Activation based on registration and one computer/one license is a major drawback that may set an industry standard that steps on the toes of the consumer.

Bill is greedy and the word sucks comes to mind regarding these features.

Now I know why the Fed went after Microsoft madness.

Strengths: Microsoft build the new Windows XP combined with Windows NT, 2000 and 98 technology. I has clean lines, visual effects,32bit high color greater multimedia support, system restore, error reporting .
Weaknesses: The only weakness is that it needs a high end systems specially suitable for Intel Pentium 4 and above 360ram
Summary: Basically It is a stable system. If you find lags in 3dgames than upgrade your video cards with Windows XP logo tested certified drivers. Windows XP pro is a must buy for all home and office users.

Strengths: This is THE os you were waiting for!
Weaknesses: Some people may find it too much cartoon, but you can easily change the settings so it looks like your older Windows.
Summary: I'm using Win XP pro on a AMD XP Athlon 1800+ 1.54ghz CPU, 256 mb ddr ram and 40G hard drive. With this configuration it's working better than any other os. Before having my new computer, I was using XP pro on a AMD K6 2 333mhz, 96 mb pc 100 sdram and 40G hard drive. On that kind of config, it was fairly slower, but still, it has never crashed, frozen... It's also fully compatible with any device you have. I heard that some people have trouble playing some of their games with XP, but just by downloading the newest driver in your video card manufacturer web site, the problem is solved. I got a 3DFX VooDoo 4 and I couldn't play any games and as you probably know 3DFX is not supporting their products anymore, so even with a third party driver it works.

A great thing with that Windows, is that you can easily create user accounts compared to older versions. Also you can change the file system to ntfs so you can block access to your folders to anybody that is not logged in your account.

Don't worry, don't hesitate, if you see XP and need a new os, just go for it. It's full of new settings, options, designs and as a must, it doesn't crashes anymore!

Strengths: Installed fast and works great. All you could ask for in a OS.
Weaknesses: None so far.
Summary: 2003-01-05 17:30:46 This operating system installed easily and works well to date. Have not had the same problems with PRO that I have had with HOME. I recommend to spend the little extra and go with the XP PRO. Has a few more doodads than the HOME version, but seem identical in workings.

Strengths: This system, if updated often, fixes itself. Good professional operating system.
Weaknesses: Restricks old DOS communications type programs.
Summary: I've had Xperience with all of MSs OS's and XP pro is the best. Stable, good format and can be made to look like the 98 series (for those users during training). The error reporting was great for fixing and stablizing the older gaming programs. The activation setup is cool, you can give the OS to someone else and they can use it for a 30 day trial before they have to buy a license. The remote assistance is great when attempting to help a non-as-XPerienced user.

Strengths: Very stable, Easy to navigate, Nice looking GUI, and everything about it is wonderful.
Weaknesses: Lack of some drivers.
Summary: I can't believe how many people criticize Windows XP in this review. It is the opposite of everything they say. Although it is very expensive, you have no choice is you want compatible software and a very stable OS.

Strengths: Very stable, Very fast
Weaknesses: None
Summary: This product is by far the best Windows yet. It is much more stable than any version so far, especially Windows 98 or Me. It has drivers built in for most hardware devices, and plays games really well. All of my applications run on it, and most of my games do (except for very old ones which I never play anymore). The multiple user accounts are awesome...

Strengths: Very stable. Very fast. Very good at handling lots of tasks simultaneously. New programs such as Movie Maker. Hardware recognition. Ease of creating/accessing/managing multiple accounts on one PC
Weaknesses: Uses lots of memory (but is good at utilizing virtual memory). Too many Automatic Updates (why weren't they included in the software to begin with?)
Summary: 2003-06-14 20:51:29 I love XP Pro. I run a 700 Mhz AMD Athlon with 192 MB of memory and can do everything fine (assuming I utilize the virtual memory). I did have all sorts of problems on my previous OS--even though I was connected to the internet I couldn't access any webpages, my computer quit recognizing I have an A:--all sorts of major problems. I installed XP and EVERYTHING worked perfectly. I have had to reinstall it once, but so far it has greatly surpassed all other versions of Windows that I have used.

**It is very important to make sure you computer is capable of running XP before you put it on. NO computer will be stable or reliable when asked to do things it wasn't designed to do. That's common sense.

XP Professional is a huge step in the right direction for Microsoft. I was so close to throwing my computer out but getting XP saved me a lot of money and I am very thankful!
