Strengths: Small, Easy to use. Very good results. Work well from Digital camcorder and stand alone with VHS unit
Weaknesses: Not much. Use a top quality DVD such as TDK and you won't have any recording problem. Can't go back on DVD to view it until it's finished.
Summary: This is a Great Unit. The unit will automatically pause if it detects a blank spot on your VHS if it was patched together. Be aware that the pause lasts for about 20 seconds then the unit will go into stop mode. You will need to rewind your VHS to see where the interruption happened and start recording again from that point. 2 hour mode (SP) will provide very good results, with minimal loss. I've burned about 35 DVDs already of home movies, with minimal problems. Sometimes the screen will show "Format Mismatch" and stop recording. This is MY Wifes fault as she copied many different events at different times, and Different recording speeds on the same VHS. Sometimes this Sony unit will show this Mismatch and be fine, other times it will stop recording and you need to back the tape up to just after the static. Also you can hook up a TV to watch your VHS use a cable, go to the VHS unit coax out to the TV signal coax in. This is a Very Nice product from Sony. Beats all of those Huge DVD recorders that are big and hard to work with. This baby is Easy and also can be used direct to digital camcorder and your computer. Just use a High Quality DVD blank to save yourself time. I used TDK but Sony says to use Sony or TDK. I had Ridiek off brand and had some coasters. TDK had none. Great buy! I paid $232 no tax and Free shipping on a Newegg one day sale! Keep your eyes open. Get one you'll be able to transfer home movies to DVD in a Snap!

Strengths: Reliable
Nice design
Weaknesses: Price a bit high, but you get what you pay for
Summary: I have burned several DVD's to archive my images using this burner and it has been working perfectly. The software takes a bit getting use to at first but it is still overall pretty good. Although it is a USB 2.0 interface at times I wish it were Firewire too.

Strengths: Excellent quality of images transferred from analogue video tapes, user-friendly design with clear directions, very easy to operate without expensive cables, sleek look, and sturdy case.
Weaknesses: Occasionally, the device stops for no apparent reasons after the first minute of data transfer. If you do not use a RW disk, you may have to change for a new one.
Summary: 2005-03-31 11:22:27 I highly recommend this unique device if you want to transfer data from an analogue source because you don't need to worry about the final result which is excellent. It is compact, too, so that you can carry it around and hook up to different computers.

Strengths: Records on all DVD R/RW formats.
Weaknesses: Cannot playback DVDs in stand alone mode. No optical audio input.
Summary: If you are looking for a versatile DVD burner, this is it. The Sony VRD-VC10 records DVDs from your VCR or Camcorder, even a DVR without the use of a computer. Take note when using the burner in a standalone mode it can only record to DVD +R/RW. I haven’t had any compatibility issues playing the discs on other DVD players. When connected to the computer it’s very easy to burn CDs or DVDs with the Nero 6 software.

Strengths: Does everything it promises to do with ease.
Weaknesses: None that I have discovered.
Summary: This very compact , extremely quiet, 16X, dual layer burner is very simple to operate and handles all CD and DVD formats. It is easier to put together than "Tinker Toys." Initially, I was somewhat skeptical, but became exuberant after it arrived and the simplicity of connections became apparent. The biggest advantage besides doing all that it promised, was the fact that you can burn all disks without being connected to a computer.

Strengths: Very easy to use
Weaknesses: Pricey.
Summary: I'm very happy with this product. It works great. It's the first product that allows direct copy from a camcorder straight to a DVD.
The recording speeds are very good and it gives the option of double layer in addition to single layer.

Strengths: Very convenient. You can easily plug in almost any media device. The first thing i used it for was to put all my home videos onto DVDs and it worked flawlessly. good job sony.
Weaknesses: isnt the most user friendly, as in you need to read the manual to use it. Otherwise, it was great!
Summary: I really am happy with this product. I was trying to decide between this one and a HP version, but chose this because it looked better. After reading up on the HP one after my purchase of this, i am truely happy with it. It works great. I mean it takes a while to put home videos onto your computer, but this is great because you can do straight to dvd; as opposed to computer then to dvd.
