2 Star ReviewI purchased this camera so I could pack lighter on ...
Strengths: Compact, lots of features, uses the same battery and accesories as my Canon G3 digital camera.
Weaknesses: Motor hum noticable during quiet recordings - VERY ANNOYING!
Summary: I purchased this camera so I could pack lighter on my trips and vacations. The fact that I could use the same accesories for both my G3 and the ZR25 was very attractive. The only drawbacks are (1) There is no "nightshot" option as on my Sony camcorder, making it useless for extremely dark occasions and (2) The soft whine of the motor while recording is noticable during playback. If there is a good amount of ambient noise while recording (i.e. people laughing, kids goofing around, etc.) this "whine" will probably not be too noticeable - but trust me, if it's quiet while recording, you WILL hear a high-pitched hum, which is EXTREMELY annoying. I will probably end up letting my brother use the ZR25, while I continue to use my Sony digital 8 camcorder. If I had purchased the ZR25 at a local store, other than on Ebay, I would definitely return it and get my money back...

Strengths: Very compact camera, far zoom abilities, 2 way dubbing
Weaknesses: There is no built in light or nightvision, still pictures resolution is low.
Summary: 2003-03-02 19:05:09 This camera has a lot of good features but one that I wish it had was a light or at least a better nightvision. It has a low light effect but I find that it decreases the quality of the picture. One good feature is that you can dub from an auxillary input directly to the camera and use it like a VCR. Firewire makes for an excellent connection for DV editing.

Strengths: Compact Easy to use loaded with special effects great color and light control
Weaknesses: Comes with a small battery and no Mini DV tape with which to get started.
Summary: I got this little guy for its size and feature pack. I read the other review and I have never heard a motor sound on the tape. Its dead silent for me. The stereo mic is very effective and clear. The picture is awesome. Its my first video camera sence a big VHS one in 1990. You could fit 10 of these in that sucker. The 10x zoom is great. And the digital zoom is out of control for getting in real close. Its like a mini spy cam cause you can hide it in the palm of your hand. The Street price of $699 is real high. I have seen it for $499 and that is just a steal. I got the BP-522 Battery which is great for a solid 5 hours of recording. You don't need the BP-535 its too big for the camera and its way too expensive. I also got a 32mb card which is holds 200 pictures. The firewire computer connection is very nice for making movies on my iMac very easy to use.

Strengths: Small, compact, just plain cute. Digital is real clear
Weaknesses: motor noise is heard on the audio
Summary: The camera's audio function is very poor. The motor "hum" is picked up by the speaker and is recorded onto the VHS tape. It almost drowns out the subjects that are being taped. Very poor quality for the price. The Canon customer service are aware of the problem and said they get alot of complaints about this particular model.
