Have owned predecessor product, JVC DH40000U for 2 ...
Strengths: Great picture
Fast rewind
Integrated ATSC tuner
Weaknesses: Picture freezes and audio drop-outs
Clumsy tuning procedure
Unreliable
Summary: Have owned predecessor product, JVC DH40000U for 2 years. Great product but required external tuner through firewire link. When JVC announced the DT100 with an integrated ATSC tuner, I jumped.
Out of the box, the DT100 would not record or play HD tapes. JVC refused to replace the unit. Took them 2 months and many phone calls and a letter to HQ to repair.
Worked OK when repaired. Beautiful pictures and audio along with fast rewind. But, transitions to/from commercials results in video freeze and audio drop-out. Appears to be caused by changes from 5.1 sound to stereo. The old DH40000U didn't do this.
Daylight Savings Time change caused the timer to miss programs. Attempted to manually adjust clock but unit would still miss the target program by an hour. Days after this, the unit would no longer maintain its memory of ATSC stations. Now, all timer recordings result in blank tape.
JVC should really recall these units.
