Strengths: Excellent value and variety of inputs and outputs.
Weaknesses: Very poor documentation.
Summary: You'd be hard pressed to find a better value in a mid-featured Home Theater in a box. The receiver has plenty of power and is set-up for Dolby Digital 6.1 and DTS. The receiver's optical inputs are assignable so they can be customized for the components in your system (DVD, CD-R, VCR, etc.). The six speakers are adequate for an average sized room and the 100-watt subwoofer sounds great. The system's biggest downfall is its unusually poor user's manual. A novice (the typical buyer of home theater in a box systems) will find it very difficult, if not impossible to set this system up without help, and won't find help in the manual. The manual's writer assumes a lot more technical knowledge than the average buyer will have and is especially lacking in the most technical areas. I've worked in the home electronics business for many years (not recently, though) and it still took me an entire afternoon to set the system up. Once I got it set-up I was very happy with the system. Overall, I'd highly recommend this system with a suggestion that you entice your most technical friend to help you set it up.
