Strengths: Good printing Weaknesses: Non Windows XP compatable w/USB, very slow copying, very expensive cartridges(not enough venders, only Sharp), will not share in a XP network. Summary: When I emailed SharpUSA.com about the XP issue, I was told the XP drivers would be available in May of 2002. As of the begining of July 2002 still no XP drivers. They say they have come across some XP issues, no release date for finished drivers. I wish I had done more research, but the box never said not for Windows XP! Strengths: very fast printing, faxing, scanning. works great and never had problems with it. people claim that ink is expensive, but I disagree because it's ink is just as expensive as any other ink. Weaknesses: slow in copying which is normal. because this is not made to be a copier, but it does copy. Summary: this is very unexpensive best multifunction I have ever had in my life. it works on windows xp. it has parallel + USB + email faxing or PC fax + special area for printing postcards with high quality. Strengths: The printer is fine and the convenience of having the four functions is good Weaknesses: Microsofts Windows XP pre-screener says that AJ5030 drivers are not compatable. Sharp's response to this was not acceptable. So, if you intend to go to XP, don't buy this printer. Summary: The best thing about this printer is the multifunction. Nothing really stands out. The software included did not support the USB interface. When I tried to use this port, the printer continued to bomb. When I connected the parallel port, everything worked fine. Getting through to Sharp is very difficult. I called to find out whether or not they intended to make the drivers and software compatable with Windows XP. The person I talked to said he was not aware of any plans to do this. If I had known this when I purchased the MFT, I would not have purchased it. In addition, Sharp needs to do something about there web site. When you log into their web site at sharp-usa, you get some short video. Prints well, copy quality is good. Weaknesses: USB port does not work with XP. Other features, copy, scan, fax are slow. Ink cartridges are difficult to find. Summary: I purchased this on a whim, now I wish I had done better at researching this product. I am pleased with the overall aspects of this unit, however, I feel that there was not enough planning put into this units future. The USB port does not work with Windows XP. When I contacted the tech support people, they said, Sorry. It seems strange that they would not have put more thought into compatability for future software upgrades. The black ink cartridge was not working well, it came with the original purchase. I was confident that it was faulty, but had to purchase a new cartridge rather than get it exchanged under the warranty period. The new cartridge solved the problem. Strengths: A ton of features Good print quality Excellent scan quality Easy to set-up and use Small size (given all the features) Fax to instant e-mail capability Weaknesses: Slow print and scan speed Summary: This was a spur of the moment purchase. We were shopping for a photo printer to give my Dad for Christmas and we saw the Sharp 5030 on sale for $150 and decided to buy it. Overall the machine works great. We love the auto-feed tray and the flatbed capability. The only downside that I can see is the print speed (not a problem for us, but slow) and the price of ink cartridges ($40 - $50), but readily available on-line or at several stores that we checked. Strengths: Good reproduction Is really a printer everything else is poor. Weaknesses: No rubberband area selection for scan. Slow scan must scan full glass area Summary: Can not find ink for system. The unit was advertised as having 4 in one capabilities. Yes but it is only a printer. When I called sharp on its slowness I was told it is first of all a printer everything else is a rider.
