Strengths: - susbstantially improved audio quality (for me)
- minor improvement to video quality (for me)
- sleek thin dimensions (2" tall)
- looks great -- available in black or white
Weaknesses: - costs more than a regular surge protector, but it's well worth it!!
Summary: I recommend anyone who has a HD home entertainment center by one of these. The unit cost me around $90, but it's well worth it!!
It protect your investsments (which is in the thousands of dollars) from lightning strikes, brown outs, or even the minor power spikes from turning on/off electrical equipment near your unit. This unit also has an EMI/RFI filter which cleans the audio noise to remove background audio & visual noise.
My entertainment center is just a plasma, vcr, xbox, cable tv, and fan. I didn't have a problem with noise (audio) until I got a HD tv. I heard other people have the same problem when they bought HD tv's. You can hear a hiss / humming noise in the background when you watch tv. Although I was the only one that could hear it when a show was on, everyone could hear it when you changed channels and there was no audio except for the noise. Add this unit, COMPLETELY removed the noise which would have driven me crazy if I didn't fix it. So this unit is worth every penny spent for me on that alone!!
On top of that, it protects your unit from lightning and other stuff that normal surge protectors don't help you with like brown outs, smoothing power, extending the life of your electrical equipment that is plugged into by dampening the after-affects of even turning off your electrical equipment on/off everyday in normal use.
Unit has connections for ethernet (which I use for my xbox), modem (not used), as well as cable (which I use). This is great because lightning can come through your ethernet or cable, not just your outlets!! Plus, as an added bonus, the unit comes with the connector cables that can connect between your unit and the ethernet/modem/cable device!!
