Strengths: Simplicity, multiple format of DVD disk output, multiple input device connections
Weaknesses: Portability (size)
Summary: I purchased this a few weeks ago to convert a small collection of miniDV tapes to DVD. I was able to connect my Sony video camera using a DV cable but the unit supports many other connection options including USB. Using a DV connection I was able to use the 'one button touch' recording approach. The DVDirect unit recognizes a new blank disk has been placed in the drive, moves on to formatting it and then controls the video camera to copy the content onto the DVD. The only complaint -- a very minor one -- is that the unit is a little bit bulky and so cannot be taken on trips to convert tapes over to DVD while on the road. Styling wise it could be slimmed down a little. But overall, it is well worth the money and very easy to use.
