Strengths: Defragments free space as well as files. Show progress for each file being moved. Better detail in the graphic display than the defragmenter that comes with windows.
Weaknesses: Isn't able to consolidate space in use by system files.
Summary: I've always used the defragmenter that comes with Windows but there are long pauses where nothing seems to be happening which leave me wondering what is going on and when the defragmentation will ever end.
I decided to try the free 15-day trial of Diskeeper and immediately decided to buy it.
Diskeeper shows the progress in KB/MB while moving a file, so I always know exactly what Diskeeper is doing and can predict how much longer it will take to finish.
The Windows defragmenter sometimes takes forever and just moves the same files back and forth with no actual gain in contiguous free space. This doesn't happen with Diskeeper.
The Diskeeper interface is a great improvement over the Windows defragmenter. Diskeeper gives a much-more detailed view of the disk and the different types of files on it.
