Good monitor
Strengths: 1. Three year warranty
2. Integrated speakers
3. Easy to use controls
4. Excellent picture
Weaknesses: Minor weakness: "G" logo in corner is brightly lit and distracting.
Summary: 2007-12-17 08:46:14 We purchased this monitor and a more expensive Acer 22" on the same day. Both have virtually identical specifications. I cannot tell a difference in the picture between the two. I have a slight preference for the all black frame of the Acer instead of the silver/black frame used on this monitor.
While setting up this monitor, the Hanns-G decal popped off, but I was able to reinsert it without incident. The VGA cable is a little difficult to insert and requires holding the monitor at an odd angle with your other hand. I suppose this is necessary in order to keep the back of the monitor so flat.
The integrated speakers are adequate for casual browsing. If you use them for media playback, you are likely to be disappointed in their volume and sound quality. The volume buttons are easily accessible on the bottom of the monitor. After trying the integrated speakers for 30 minutes, I returned to my original desktop speaker system.
The controls are easily accessible and easy to use. The monitor tilts easily forward and backward. I like the three year warranty.
Three tips for purchasing this or any LCD monitor
1. Inputs. I'm using this monitor with a laptop that only has VGA output. Many monitors do not provide VGA input. Make sure you know what type of output your computer/video card uses, and that the monitor offers a corresponding input.
2. Set resolution. When you hook up the monitor, it automatically connects and provides a pretty good picture. If you are moving up from a smaller screen size, you are likely to be blown away compared to what you are used to. Still, make sure you set the resolution to the recommended setting (1680x1050). Otherwise, text will appear odd and other images will be suboptimized.
3. Set brightness/contrast. When I received the monitor, it was set at 100% brightness and contrast. This offers a striking visual image. However, remember to adjust the brightness and contrast to make it easier on your eyes for long term viewing. I adjusted the two settings to about 50 and the image is still very bright.
Additional comments added after owning for three weeks: When the house is quiet (i.e., the furnace is not running), I became aware of a humming sound coming from the monitor. I contacted the manufacturer's tech support who said there should be no hum. I exchanged it for a different unit. The hum continued even though I tried a different VGA cable, and even hooked it up to a different computer. I compared it side by side with an Acer 22" and discovered that both monitors make some noise when displaying a picture. It's just that my ears are more sensitive to the hum from the Hanns-G, which is a little louder and a different pitch than the operating noise from the Acer. I'm undecided whether I will keep it (it was a great price that I won't be able to match) or return it.

Strengths: Size and price.
Weaknesses: Moving scenes.
Summary: Good deal if you can get this monitor below $200 price. Pictures are decent, but not slightly weak when viewing movies with fast moving scenes. Need to tweak the picture setting because the factory setting is max on all aspects. Pretty typical on most LCD. Overall good product.

Strengths: Great Price, HDMI, speakers, 3 year warranty
Weaknesses: No DVI
Summary: I bought this LCD at a great price. This LCD works great, no dead pixels, wide screen, easy to use. The picture quality is great, bright and sharp, clear text at maximum resolution. It would be better if it has DVI. It has HDMI which is good if you have DVD player with HDMI.

Strengths: HDMI port, HDCP compliant, 21.6" screen size, 5ms refresh rate, price
Weaknesses: No DVI port (requires adapter for DVI connections), very low volume speakers
Summary: With computers looking at gaining Blu-Ray optical disc drives in the near future, I believe more and more videocards will be adopting the HDMI interface as a standard output. Already, most new videocards today support DVI-out. Both HDMI and DVI are pure digital signals, so they are both HDCP-compliant, which is a sort of inactive content protection in new movies these days that can be turned on at a later time. This monitor is widescreen and 21.6" diagonally and natively supports HDMI and VGA connections. HDMI and DVI are about the same, except HDMI carries both audio and video data whiel DVI is video data only, so, to use DVI with this monitor, you need a HDMI-to-DVI adapter. I have tried hooking up a PC to this montior through VGA, as well as my laptop. They look great at the highest supported resolution. It doesn't look as good when forcing it into non-native resolutions, but that seems to be the case for all LCD's I've tried. Old video cards that can't support high resolutions or widescreen formats could have a problem there. I have also tried hooking up a PS3 to this (via HDMI) and playing both PS3 games and Blu-Ray movies through it. The max video displayed, as recognized by the PS3, is 1080i. The 5ms refresh rate was quick enough that there was no ghosting from any games or Blu-Ray movies. If you have a PC/laptop connected to this and install a HDTV tuner to the PC/laptop, you can even use this monitor as an HDTV. My two complaints about this monitor are that the base is very limited in how it can be adjusted or swiveled and is only of adequate quality...and the built-in speakers are horribly weak. You can keep the volume set at 100% and it'd never bother anybody. Still, this is a very valued monitor especially considering it has HDMI support, which is still very rare these days.

Hanns-G HG216D 22" LCD Monitor
Strengths: affordable price, HDCP support and HDMI input; Speaker included
Weaknesses: TN panel, poor view angle,so so build quality
Summary: I've owned this monitor for over a month and I am not so impressed by it. The picture quality and view angle is not good since it uses a TN panel. The HDCP support is a plus and I can hook my PS3 to it though.

Strengths: VERY bright; high contrast ratio
Weaknesses: none so far
Summary: I've had this monitor for a little over a month now and I love it. Even at a non-sale price it's probably the best value around (I got mine with a $50 mail-in rebate from Staples which I brilliantly didn't get mailed in before the deadline :(
I would have no hesitation in recommending this monitor to anyone/

Strengths: You really can't beat it for the $130 I paid, then again you can't beat much for that price!
Weaknesses: The only complaint I have about packaging is it did not come with a hdmi to dvi cable that would have been nice but for the price I let that slide.. buy this monitor it is great.
Summary: The size is awesome 21.6" viewable, the colors are great. The stand is not that bad it has great support. and the monitor does go into stand by mode when the computer is off it will not shut off but if you are to lazy to push a button well then. All games will work with the native resolution 1680 X 1050.
