3 Star ReviewHere's the problem: The digital tuner on FM sounds ...
Strengths: Excellent CD player and the amp sounds great. AM section is excellent for those who like to pull in weak stations.
Weaknesses: FM section, too many menus to scroll thru. Changing bands (AM/FM) requires an extra step.
Summary: Here's the problem: The digital tuner on FM sounds great from an audio standpoint when you DON'T use the adaptive SHARX IF. With the adaptive IF on, selectivity gets better but some stations sound distorted.

With the SHARX off, selectivity is no better than average (some analog tuners like the Pioneer are better).

One other major problem seems to be high RF environments. Weaker stations are completely muted when driving near a radio transmitter. On analog designs, this problem usually only occurrs near the offending station. Here, the ENTIRE band (88-108) can be effected when you are near a station, say, at 98.1 for example.

If you like clean sounding FM, but don't travel too much, then this is for you (since the FM, with the SHARX off, can sound VERY clean). If you like to bounce offroad, this CD is for you as well (with the nice sounding amp). But if you like to take your radio stations far from the transmitter, I think this design needs work.

One good thing, the annoying "high-blend" that most analog circuit radios use to "improve" reception is defeatable here.
