Strengths: Inexpensive, does the job, good range, okay speed.
Weaknesses: Focus is not as fast as Canon. Does not find focus quickly in lower light situations. Slow (f/5.6) at max telephoto range.
Summary: 2005-05-05 18:17:16 I purchased this as an accessory for a Canon Digital Rebel XT (D350). First accessory lens for me. I've used but never owned Canon EOS system equipment before. Lens works fine with camera. There is a 2:1 super macro mode which is really fantastic. The speed is similar to the Canon 75-300mm f/4.0-f5.6 lens, but the macro feature sets it apart.

Apparently Ritz Camera is the only place that carries this lens. I didn't do too much research on this before I bought it but for the price I think it's a good value. I've since learned that Quantaray is the in-store brand name for Sigma which is a popular third party lens manufacturer. I would definitely consider buying more of this brand.

Strengths: Cost, materials, general image quality, function.
Weaknesses: Extremely bad purple fringing (chromatic aberration) even though it has Low Dispersion (LDO) glass. Autofocus occassionally hunts for distant objects.
Summary: I cannot accept the level of purple fringing caused by this lens. I compared it to my other lenses in exactly the same circumstances and this one was worse by far. I exchanged it for another lens of the same type hoping mine was a problem part. The new lens was just as bad so I returned it for a full refund with no fuss from Ritz. I am disappointed that it didn't work out because I really like the cost, features, and usability of the lens.
