Strengths: Able to see cadence and heart rate on the same monitor
Weaknesses: Having to push mode button 3 times in order to access the main function
Summary: I was undecided on the unit due to the high price. After much deliberation and luckily finding PriceGrabber.com and able to purchase the unit at a lower price, I am very happy with the decision.

Strengths: Compact, well-integrated components; single wireless module, extra shims and mounting hardware, easy-auto-config on device, bundled software!
Weaknesses: difficult to pair wireless sensors with main unit: check batteries!
Summary: The Edge 305 is pretty much the best training tool ever, if you are both a cyclist and a geek. I've used several cyclometers, from simple Cateyes to comprehensive Vetta devices with wireless everything, to the Garmin product. The simplicity of using GPS to help record, and calculate, your relative performance, is a wonderful thing. While signal quality mileage may vary, based on terrain, and slight inaccuracies in the Garmin's calculations have been reported online, I've not seen any real evidence of that personally. The altimeter and mapping functions are very interesting, particularly with regards to compiling records on your computer after the ride, and comparing them against your previous rides. This obviously benefits those who ride the same routes repeatedly, to measure relative performance. The Garmin even gives you a 'shadow rider' on the display, so you can see visually, during the ride, how you are doing relative to previous data. Lastly, the bundled software is very useful, and both pay-to-play solutions for integrating zoomier maps and graphics online are available through motion-based, and free open-source applications are available online as well.

I highly recommend the product.

Strengths: Easy to use GPS unit displays/records speed, heading, heart rate, cadence, distance and much more. Helps motivate by providing comparison with past performance. Easy download to computer.
Weaknesses: Tiny screen can be difficult to read while biking. Units LCD screen does not show roads or terrain.
Summary: The Garmin Edge 305 displays (and saves for later download to a computer) importants stats including GPS location, elevation, instantaneous speed, average speed, heart rate, cadence, heading, time of day, elapsed time, etc. After a day of biking it is especially fun to download the Edge to a computer (via USB port) and see on a map each turn. Simultaneous plots show all recorded parameters for any location on the map.

The Edge is a fun and useful tool for both the recreational and avid biker.

Strengths: Features, Performance, Build
Weaknesses: Screen could be bigger & color
Summary: This is a superb GPS trainer for bikers with both Cadence & Heartrate measurement via Wireless sensors. it has a lot of features and a professional athlete can download data off the device to a computer for analysis. the GPS functions very well, with quick signal acquisition and ample memory for storing trackpoints. it is the best training tool for bikers. wish it had a color screen and the screen could be bigger with plenty of unused space on the front. the device is pretty tiny and easily pocketable. its expensive but definitely worth it for those who utilise its features.

Strengths: easy to install, set up, and work with
Weaknesses: calorie counter, battery counter
Summary: A great purchase and a product that is incredibly easy to use/set up and work with. The calorie counter seems to be pretty suspect as any ride seems to be incredibly high. Probably something better out there if that is important to you. The cadence counter and heart rate monitor work well but drain the battery pretty quickly.

All in all, however, considering that it gives me altitude, speed, distance, etc., this is a great buy!

Strengths: The Edge 305 is quick and easy to install yourself. Small but easy to read screen that can display multiple variables. It has excellent satellite reception. It is easy to use.
Weaknesses: None so far except you have to remember to push start before you begin your ride.
Summary: I have been searching for the perfect bike computer for some time. If the Edge had a power meter then it would definitely have it all. It can be easily installed in 5-10 minutes. It is a great companion for a ride and can even give you a virtual competitor. Its display is easy to read while on the bike. You can customize the display with up to 8 different readouts. You can set an audio alarm to warn you if your speed or cadence is too fast or too slow. The receiver even gets a satellite signal inside my house so you should have no worries on those overcast days. You can also set it up for multiple bikes or use the "Bike 2" to monitor you on a run if you are into triathlons.

Strengths: Lots of data, small, very well built. Can monitor ride and human data at the same time.
Weaknesses: Expensive. Mine has the mini USB cover bigger than it should, so it does not seal the unit properly.
Summary: The unit is able to captures speed (current/average/max), heart rate, cadence, timings, grades, etc. It allows you to track your ride, and enter virtual markers so as the GPS will measure the distance between them. It is possible to upload your ride to Google Earth and see where you went. You can also upload it into the included Training Center software, which gives graphical representations of rides and includes terrain maps.

The included software allows you to get a very detailed analysis of your training through data of your past rides and yourself (for example, how effort did you do to climb a hill), or to compare your performance in the same circuit. A nice feature allows you to define a workout, in which the device alerts you at predetermined times if you need to change your effort to meet the plan. I found these features useful, well implemented, and easy to use.

Battery life is no so good. It lasts one day if you pair it up with the heart rate and cadence sensors (for which you would like to buy this unit, right?). Regrettably, battery is not user replaceable. The display can be hard to read in sunlight. On the other side, readability is good with low light (good backlit). I checked the cadence and heart rate functions, and both appear to be very accurate.

It is a complete suite for serious bickers. Highly recommended.
