Strengths: Superb color saturation and pixellation, great for photo printing/editing/professional art work, big real estate, plethora of inputs not seen in competition, pivot/tilt options, 3 year Dell warranty
Weaknesses: heavy, slight ghosting on action movies/games, no HDMI/DisplayPort
Summary: I purchased this baby a few months back for some gaming and light photoediting. I calibrated it using Displaymate then borrowed my professional photographer friend's Pantone Huey. Post calibration the colors gamut look amazing, with shades for grey unrivalled in this monitor's class. I compared this screen side-by-side with my friend's $2500 Lacie monitor. With my untrained eye I could not see a difference, though my friend claimed the Dell's gray scale smears a bit at the bottom corners due to the SVA-panel and his being S-IPS. Whatever, I think it's a draw! For gaming, I have used it on FarCry and the recently released Crysis with maximum settings. BTW I use a 8800XTX Geforce in dual-SLI with a 2.4GHz quad-core Intel machine. The games look superb, but slight ghosting is seen compared to my old trusty Samsung 226BW which is a TN panel. Of course if you go online community you will find that most people advocate TN panels for action gaming and PVA/MVA/S-IPS for artwork. Oh well I think I will stick with the Samsung for FPS and the Dell for RPG's :))

The Dell screen can pivot and tilt with ease, and the stand is sturdy enough to withstand abuse. I would consider getting a nice industrial grade arm for easier manipulation, but keep in mind this baby weighs in at 18 lbs and is not light by any means. The inputs are great for some DVD viewing (again watch the very slight ghosting in action movies) but too bad Dell did not think ahead to include HDMI and/or DisplayPort for future proofing. Of course you can use the DVI adapter to HDMI and solve that problem. There are no speakers included with this screen though I do believe you can purchase them separately (not sure on that). Components are 1080i only if you have a source that can output 1080i through components. I don't so I use a DVI splitter.

Strengths: Five different video inputs are available: DVI, VGA, Component, Composite and S-Video / Korean (Not Chinese) Samsung S-PVA panel / The flexible stand - easily swivel, tilt, and pivot the screen
Weaknesses: No HDMI, At 18.3 pounds, the 2407WFP-HC isn't light
Summary: I bought this LCD monitor with Dell Inspiron 531s. Its total price is below than $800 through using coupon.

DVI can handle the full 1080p resolution, component works fine but only up to 1080i.

Dell backs the 2407WFP-HC with a three-year limited warranty.

If you want to compare the old model(2407WFP) with the new one(2407WFP-HC), go and see at

Strengths: 24" widescreen, bright, sharp
Weaknesses: No HDMI
Summary: If you want a widescreen 24" LCD, then there is probably no monitor with better value than the 2407WFP-HC. The panel is actually made by Samsung. You can input DVI, VGA, Component, Composite and S-Video into this monitor. The picture is clear and the additional USB ports (2) on the side along with the card reader comes in handy as well. I've never used the non-HC version but apparently the HC version has a better picture. Dell provides a 3-year warranty.

Strengths: Bright, colorful, big!
Weaknesses: None
Summary: Having owned 4 - 2405wfp's and 2 - 2407fwp's I was wondering if the improved HC version would have a noticeable difference to it. No worries, it shows that even a great product can be made better. Side by side with a non-HC version the difference can be seen. My son immediately noticed the difference when playing games (he had no knowledge of any difference beforehand).

Strengths: Large Screen Size, 1920x1200 Resolution, Adjustability, Anti-Glare Matte Screen Surface, Auxiliary Card Reader Slots and USB Ports, Connectivity Options, 1080p Support
Weaknesses: Somewhat Costly, 1920x1200 Resolution Has Compatibility Issues With Some Applications
Summary: I purchased the 2407WFP-HC 24-inch wide-screen monitor along with my Dell XPS 420 PC, and I’m glad I did. Overall it is an excellent monitor with many good features. I paid a substantial up-charge over the cost of other monitors, but for me it was worth it.

My primary reason for getting it was its large size. My wife was complaining that she could not readily read the text on our other computer, a Dell Dimension with a Sony 19-inch CRT monitor. I also wanted a larger screen size for digital photo processing and a wide-screen format for HDTV viewing (a future interest).

This 24-inch monitor allows a larger and clearer image than the 19-inch monitor, but there is a catch. The 1920x1200 resolution is not optimally supported by all software. In fact, application menu text and icons often show up smaller than on our other monitor. For example, the Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 menu text shows up in a very tiny scale, such that I have to turn on the PC’s Accessibility magnifier to see it comfortably. Another example is that some web-page text is obscured by the frame outlines under Internet Explorer. I am continuing to investigate whether there are solutions for these issues (let me know if you know the answer).

Another key feature for me was the monitor’s adjustability. You can raise and lower it, tilt it forward and back, rotate it left and right, and pivot it from horizontal (landscape) format to vertical format. The ability to raise and lower it, coupled with the forward and backward tilt, makes it easy to find a comfortable viewing angle. For me, the ability to pivot the screen to a vertical format is a less important feature than the other adjustments, as the wide width makes the monitor very tall when pivoted.

The anti-glare matte finish greatly reduces screen reflections, compared to others that I’ve seen at local electronics stores. The display is easy to view in a brightly lit room.

This monitor comes with a small bonus – auxiliary card reader slots and USB ports. I find using these to be at times more convenient and reliable than the ones built into the PC.

There are a few options for connecting the monitor to your PC. It comes with DVI and VGA connectors. It is hooked up to my PC with the DVI interface. I plan to use the VGA connector to connect it to my work laptop, but haven’t done so yet.

The 1920x1200 resolution means that this monitor can support 1080p HDTV images. My PC came with a TV card that is ATSC-equipped. I have cable TV, but not HD (yet). Viewing standard TV on the screen is not up to HD quality, but very acceptable. I’ve had limited experience viewing HDTV on the screen using an indoor antenna (I can only receive a few stations) but the image is excellent. I’ve used the monitor only in its out-of-the-box configuration, and have not felt compelled to make any color adjustments, etc.

The bottom line is that I highly recommend this monitor.

Hope this has been useful to you.
