Mediocre - Magnavox 42MF437B.
Strengths: Lowest cost name brand 1080p. 2 HDMI inputs & VGA for PC. Menus are easy to navigate and little tuning required for a satisfactory picture. Speaker bar is removable.
Weaknesses: The "side" ports are on the back edge of the left side, making them well concealed but difficult to access. The remote control is a bit small, but easy to use and functional.
Summary: 2008-03-01 03:54:20 Overall, it's a decent buy. The TV has matte black cabinet, an adequate number of ports, easy to navigate menus, average sound, and low price. This is the lowest price name brand 1080p we've seen ...olevia, sceptre, vizio like price tag.
Update:
After about two months, we noticed that the frame had become slightly warped in places and was not flush to the screen in some places.
Once we hooked it up to a HD satellite receiver, the television had difficulty choosing the proper display format. It would often waver between widescreen and stretch, which proved to be somewhat annoying ...many of the manual format selections became greyed out when attached to the receiver overridden by the satellite format selection?
As prices continue to drop, we've noticed many models that have superior pictures and additional features that cost only marginally more. i.e. Philips, Vizio...
We bought a Philips to compare. It's exponentially nicer in both form and function ...it is a work of art next to the Magnavox.
Advice: You can do better than the Magnavox for slightly more cost, and it is worth it ...don't feel compelled to run out and buy an outrageously expensive Samsung, Sharp, or Sony ...there are some beautiful units out there for under $1500 USD.
*Unless you're 100% certain that you're destined to own a specific model, make certain that your TV comes with a flexible return policy!
