Strengths: Reasonably fast, dependable, not nearly as fragile as some say.
Weaknesses: Somewhat fragile, but as I said, not nearly as much as some say. Somewhat of a power hog.
Summary: I love this drive, use it in my Fujifilm S2 and it hasn't lost an image. I dropped it once on a cement floor, afterwards it worked fine. I liked it so much I bought another 2 months ago. One thing though, don't try to put it through the wash cycle of your washing machine, as I feared, it came up toast. I just bought another because of that reason.

The other sited draw back is it's a power hog. I have to admit it is, but I use high capacity rechargable batteries (1900mha, 4 in the camera and I don't use the C123's at all in the other compartment as they are not needed unless the onboard flash is used) and I've filled up two microdrives with high res JPG images, about 219 per card.

They also write as fast as the camera will shoot (up to 2 frames a second, 7 images till it fills up the on camera buffer) but if the drive is asleep, it takes a second to spin up, which, if you need the camera fast, my advice is to set the camera so the drive won't go to sleep. I don't think it will significantly power down your batteries. I have mine set on 3 min, then it spins down. Never really had a reason to leave it on all the time. I never turn off my camera when I am shooting, but like I said, it does power down after three minutes, then a slight tap of the shutter brings it back to life.

You can't use this drive above 10,000 feet. It uses an "air bearing" and there is simply not enough air to keep it from distroying itself.

Strengths: none
Weaknesses: battery hog; very sensitive to shock or heat. Not suitable for use with portable device like PDA or Digital camera
Summary: I was sucked in by the potential for mass memory capacity for my PDA. However, the Microdrive that I brought always used a tremendous amount of battery power and completely fail twice and was replaced by the manufacturer. It should be recalled as a defective product
