Strengths: fairly cheap, plays all MP3 I've come across even those with variable bit rates (even though manual doesnt say if it works or not), handles non-english letters (at least european ones),detachable face
Weaknesses: dull backlight LCD in strong sun light. Can produce noise at end of some songs.
Summary: 2003-03-22 17:41:09 I bought it before Xmas and installed it myself. I had to buy a car cable kit for 15$ from Frys to hook it up to my car, but otherwise the installation worked fine. If unsure I recommend taking it to a professional installer beacause then the warranty is still valid.. ;-) To setup it up to your own need is a bit tricky though. You need the manual. The FM station setup is bad. You can scan and set channels but switching between them is messy.. The FM receiver is a bit weak. My Mazda Protoge default FM/CD player was better. The CD/MP3 player is good. Haven't had any skips so far even I have driven over "rocks and logs" on the 101. (Badly maintained road) Impressive. One bad thing is that you have to fold down the face plate to insert a CD. The buttons are not so good either. Small and plastic. A remote is not included but can be bought for $30 at Good Guys. Besides the problems above, I'm a happy camper with my Kenwood MP3 player. The quality of the sound is OK. I can't tell since I don't have any fancy speakers. Recommend: Yes! Update March 22,2003: Still have this unit and is quite happy with it. I have no problems with it, still works perfectly despite my bad driving, the heat when I lived in California and now the humid, hot weather mixed with freezing cold weather in Pennsylvania. Some of the newest MP3 players nowadays takes shorter time to locate the songs compared to this one, otherwise it is fine.
