Strengths: Price, performance, free software, resolution
Weaknesses: Complicated, not for non-technical
Summary: This is not a product for the non-technical. Making a camera work over a network can be somewhat complex. Making it work over the Internet can be very complex. That being said the DCS-3220 is a wonderful solution to remote surveillance for the home or small business. The monitoring software is worth almost as much as the price of the camera. I have a client using 14 of these to monitor his business over the internet. The data is choppy with that much traffic but it works.

1 Star ReviewThis camera is just this side of useless. On face ...
Strengths: Haven't found a lot. If pushed, I'd say the picture quality.
Weaknesses: Compatibility, unreliable, tech support, unwieldy software, audio is poor, could go on and on.....and on.
Summary: This camera is just this side of useless. On face value, if it worked at all it would be a revolution in the industry! I have had two of them, the first cam, the network could not even detect and at great, painful length; DLink told me to just return it for another camera. When the return arrived, the cam setup quickly, but the codec failed. Back to DLink to send the URL to download and reinstall...right? Huh-uh. DLink refers you back to the Microsoft Labyrinth, from which there is no pleasant return. The cam now functions on a single node on my network after 4 hours of tweaking, pushing and prodding. Uh, let's see, I get 60$ an hour, the cam cost me 240$ and I was out all the money through the return and the 6 hours it took me to get that done. Get the picture?

Don't bother here folks.

1 Star ReviewFailed to work out the bugs.
Strengths: Cheap for the picture quality.....
Weaknesses: Motion recording disfunctional, Installation software had to be updated before it worked. Tech support hard to reach, (they were having technical difficulties w/phones [go figure])
Summary: During installation there were many technical tweaks that we're required to get the camera up and running. Spent wasted time on internet reading up on how to fix software issues. Finally returned camera after the ipsurvaillance software failed to link to camera (which was my only other option to be able to record, since the cameras auto record wasn't working). Spoke with technical support finally, but to no avail. Found it disturbing that when I opened the box to the camera there was a big orange note on top that said, "Before returning this product call DLink". Oh ya and if you put a password on the camera, your login name is "admin". Nowhere does it tell you that, spent fusterating minutes trying diff login names just to get into the camera to use it.

Strengths: Easy setup & use.
Weaknesses: None so far.
Summary: I have 9 of these cameras at various business locations and have the software set up at one central location on a dedicated computer. The software allows me to monitor all locations and record the activities at those locations. I can, and have, easily reviewed events on specific days. I can also easily view the cameras from other locations (like when I'm on vacation). I had to contact tech support regarding file backups. The second tier support knew exactly what to do and it's as easy as can be. Tier one tech support is spotty on these cameras. Overall, the price paid for the camera (which comes w/software - a big plus) is well worth it.
