Strengths: Great picture. Great features, well designed.
Weaknesses: Expensive.
Summary: If you're looking to purchase this TV, you probably already know that its one of the most highly regarded sets on the market. The GX version in Sharp's 45" line has an external AVC box that accepts the inputs; bypassing this box is possible to make this TV TRUE 1080p. In my opinion, the picture quality and design features of this set are second to none. HDTV picture quality is outstanding. SDTV is acceptable. (Like most HDTV's, the high resolution really brings out the poor image quality of standard definition TV.) This is my second HDTV, and it blows away my previous Toshiba 36".

Strengths: Excellent picture. Wide viewing angle. External ACU box for connecting components. Slim case that won't interfere with living room interior design (it's not a big silver or black box).
Weaknesses: None that I've found yet.
Summary: After a lot of research I decided on getting an LCD over Plasma. A friend of mine had the 37" AQUOS so I've seen them in person. The external box was definately a plus for me and I had no use for either the cable card or the TV Guide feature of more expensive models. This generation of Sharp LCDs has a greater contrast range than previous models - I'm enjoying DVDs and HD content.

Strengths: The great picture quality with 1920x1080 resolution; external AVC box; PC card slot; build-in HDTV tuner.
Weaknesses: 1920x1080 is not supported on external DVI input on AVC (but there is a possibility for direct connection without AVC for 1920x1080 from PC); pure PC card interface, does not accept MPEG-4.
Summary: The Sharp Aquos LC-45GX6U is one of the best LCD-TVs on the market. The picture quality is outstanding. The external AVC box is really convenient for peripherals connection. This TV is a smart choice for work with a media-center PC. You can not only watch TV and DVDs but also play games and brouse an internet on the big screen. The only disadvantage is a lack of 1920x1080 support from external DVI connector on the AVC box. You can connect directly to PC with 1920x1080, but in this case you will need HDCP-compliant DVI switcher (another $200-$300) if you still want to use AVC.

Strengths: Looks awesome. HD picture is spectacular. Setup is easy. Separate box for connections.
Weaknesses: Expensive, but getting cheaper. Analog picture actually looks worse than on regular tv. Short power cable.
Summary: The picture is great when getting an HD signal, but the analog signal upconversion only looks average. It may be the screen resolution highlighting the weaknesses of the upconversion or the signal. The colors are vibrant with a wide viewing angle. The setup is easy and the onscreen menu easy to follow. I bought this TV because I felt it would meet my needs for a long time and as HD content increases it can only get better. With several manufactures opening manufacturing facilities next year, the prices can only come down, but just couldn't wait.

Strengths: Great display. Detachable speakers. Slim design (with a minimum of extra border). AV center with front and back hook ups. Sound only mode (great for digital cable music channels)
Weaknesses: Short power cord.
Summary: Overall, I am very pleased with this model. The display brightness, contrast, and color are all top notch. The slim design and detachable speakers make for a very elegant installation. In terms of quality of picture, audio, and value I give high marks.

My only disappointment was the rather short power cord for the TV. This is rather irritating limitation when the tv is wall mounted. It basically necessitates the installation of a high mounted electrical outlet to be run behind the TV. Overall, not a show stopper, but it is a disappointment and something to plan for if you are going to wall mount the unit.

Strengths: quality of picture, light weight for size, separate connection box, auto light senser, plenty of connections.
Weaknesses: brand new product, unknown life expectancy?
Summary: This baby just came out and we got it. What a beauty.

We don't have an HDTV antenna yet (still in the mail). So we hooked up our old Trek FM antenna to it and we got over the air HD broadcasts ranging from 720p to 1080i. Each channel's quality varies as some are upconverted and some are true HD. Man, we have not seen HD until we tuned to our local KCET (28.1) and during Saturday/Sundy/Monday college/pro football games. Wow! I can't wait to get the real HDTV antenna to try it out.

Oh, it also upconverts all signal to 1080p. I tried with DVD, it looked great. But I can't tell the difference, as I have the Samsung HD931 hooked up.

It has DVI, HDMI, component, etc.... It also has a PC card slot. So you can get a pc card adapter and play picture slidshow, movies via it. I tried it, and found its file requirements is very picky and slow. So I will stick with camera to TV connection instead.

It can be used as a PC monitor. We tried it and its resolution is quite impressive. I can clearly see everything and think it can do a fair good job of it. As long as you do not use it to read text. My brother said it is still lacking in that department.

Lastly, 45", LCD, high resolution, HD tuner built-in, HD upconversion, and for $6k, it compares favorably with other similar sized displays.

Strengths: Sharpest Picture available. Very bright.
Weaknesses: The PC Card interface for displaying stills is lame. When you set the image to full screen it messes up the aspect ratio.
Summary: I brought one of these in Feb 2005 and love it. My cable box(a Motorola DVR DCT 6412 installed by Cox Communications) has a DVI output but for some reason the DVI input on the Aquos is limited to 1280x720 but the HDMI input is not. I bought a monster cable DVI-> HDMI cable and it works fine at 1920x1080. It is the sharpest image I have seen. It makes plasmas look soft and muddy, 2.1 million pixels vs 0.9 million). Normally, LCDs don't have a low black level like plasmas or CRTs but this monitor adjusts to room light to fix that problem.

Strengths: True 1080p, price, exteral AV box
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: The reason I purchased this model: it was the ONLY TV I could find which would let me drive it with my computer at 1920 x 1200 resolution. I simply hooked up my Mac Powerbook through the DVI port (external to the AV box) and it recognized it and displayed at full resolution. Perfect for displaying digital photograph slideshows or using it as a computer monitor in the living room. All other models with no external AV box will only allow displays as high as 1280 (despite being advertised as a true 1920 display). Only the 45GX6U model.

Cable company just installed my HD and all HD imagery looks great. Absolutely no noticable ghosting with the 12ms pixel response. Analog cable channels are okay, though I have not done anything to optimize the picture (set is still being displayed as "out of box").

Crisp colors and bright image from 160 degrees. I was concerned about seeing the TV from the chair in the far corner of the room but the picture looks great from there as well.

I also like the slim design with speaker on the bottom. It is a 45" display, yet it is less than 43" in width.

Strengths: Sharper than any HD TV I've seen (only comparable set is the Sony LCD, which is $10K).
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I compared all the DLP, Plasma, and LCD's on the market (ALL of them), and came away with the impression that this Sharp is the best of the bunch, regardless of size, and has only one competitor (the Sony 42" LCD, which is slightly less than $10K). It is light enough to easily be carried by two, and setup was a snap. I particularly liked the separate AVC unit, which routes all connections to one box, so you have the option of a neater mounting on the wall, if you choose. It is light enough to set on any stand, and looks stunning on my mahogany and glass stand (a beautiful BDI unit, by the way). The Titanium finish, along with the elegant design, makes it a beautiful machine (no, I don't work for Sharp, just a VERY satisfied customer).

Strengths: Brillaint picture. Generally easy to set up.
Weaknesses: Expensive. Power cord is way too short. Can't customize input settings. Manual not clear on HD cable setup. Remote not universal.
Summary: Once you get it set up and working and arranged so that the short AC cord works, this TV is awesome. The picture is amazingly clear and crisp. Blacks are terrific. Better picture than the plasmas I'd tested. Generally easy to set up, although the manual is not clear at setting up HDTV. While setting it up to receive analog cable was easy, getting dgital and HDTV working was difficult and time consuming. Other minor gripes are that the in put settings can't be customized to indicated video camera for example. In addition the remote control is not universal. It works on some peripherals but not others thus necessitating the need for multiple remotes. for 8K a universal remote should be included.

2 Star ReviewAnyone thinking of buying Sharp's new LC45GX6U mig ...
Strengths: Great picture
Weaknesses: Lack of Windows Media support at native resolution
Summary: Anyone thinking of buying Sharp's new LC45GX6U might want to think twice. The screen's claim to fame is that it is one of the first to support native 1080 X 1920 resolution. The reality is that this is only partially correct. It is the screen resolution, but when hooked to a PC input (for games, or when using Windows Media Edition 2005), the higest resolution supported is 768 X 1280.

FYI... Samsung has a similar unit (46") that is also 1080 X 1920--and in checking does support PC input at 1080 X 1920.

Anyway, if anyone has had a similar experience and figured out a work-around, I would love to hear about it.

Strengths: EXCELLENT IMAGE QUALITY, EASE OF SET-UP, VERY LIGHT WEIGHT FOR ITS SIZE.
Weaknesses: NONE THAT I HAVE SEEN.
Summary: Highly recommend!!! I Researched and compared LCD to PLASMA. LCD wins hands down. When hooked into a home theater sound system, it truly is amazing. No distortion from side, nor is there a loss of picture quality.

Strengths: The AVC unit is the best, the fact that you can plug all of the cables into one unit and still get to them is incredible. Very sleek design and unit. Good remote control. Easy GUI.
Weaknesses: Sound is a bit disappointing and only has one s-video connector. Otherwise the quality is great.
Summary: 2005-09-13 18:19:28 Really love the product. I did a lot of shopping around and found this one really met my needs. With the price dropping it is a great buy -- around $4,000 -- for a 45 inch. LCD.
