Strengths: Graphics are decent.
Weaknesses: Football on the small screen loses some impact Doesn't take advantage of touch screen appreciably
Summary: I wasn't expecting much after enjoying Madden on a progressive scan HDTV via Xbox, but must say the DS version is better than one might expect from a graphics standpoint. However, you do lose some of the intensity of the game with the tiny screen and tinny sound effects. Headphones help a little. Certainly a great diversion if you gotta play football in the car.

3 Star ReviewMADDEN 2005
Strengths: Madden gameplay, touch screen play calling, smooth animation
Weaknesses: Graphics are weak, limited sound,no analog stick
Summary: Madden 05 is fun, just like all the other maddens before it.The players look blocky, kinda of ugly. However the animation is very smooth.Don't go by the screen shots, you need to see it playing. No analog stick kinda hurts,Like the good old days playing with the d-pad.The sounds are good, just not many of them. The touch screen is great for calling your plays.Overall if u want football on the go,Madden is very good, unless you have a psp,if you do go with madden on that.madden is ds is cheap, and it's worth

Strengths: Has superb graphics, realistic play, and takes advantage of the dual screen format of the DS. The touch screen control works well. You can also take on other players wirelessly in head to head gaming!
Weaknesses: These Madden games get better every year with upated player portraits & stats, its just about time for Madden 06...
Summary: This game is little disappointing if your used to the action on the larger game system like Madden 05 for PS2. But otherwise great for a portable version! I recommend it as a 7 out of 10. Enjoy!

3 Star ReviewMadden '05
Strengths: Lots of great ideas
Weaknesses: A little rushed out the door, a few too many bugs.
Summary: Football has a lot of info to display, and 2 screens are a plus. The touch screen is well used. A few bugs and exploits exists and I as I use the DS on the bus, for what can be long commutes, a Franchise mode with the ability to trade players would have been a much appreciated addition. As well as GM or Coaches only mode for Franchise, where I could build a team and play a full season in just a few hours.

3 Star ReviewEveryone knows Madden football. It has been the s ...
Strengths: Classic Madden football gameplay on the go, good selection of plays and moves, good controls, unlockable power up cards
Weaknesses: Multiple carts required for multiplayer, graphics aren't up to spec and could be much better, no Franchise Mode, limited commentary during the game
Summary: Everyone knows Madden football. It has been the staple of video game football for over a decade. And now it finally enters the 3D portable age, much to the delight of football fans. But how does it translate to gaming on the go, particularly to the Nintendo DS. For the most part, it transfers well, with a few hiccups.

Basically, Madden Football for the DS is Madden 2000 gameplay with Madden 98 graphics and some Madden 2005 features. The gameplay is what you would expect, with a wide variety of plays and moves available. Running and passing with the digital pad and buttons is a breeze - handoff and run or tap A and pass to the corresponding receiver by hitting the corresponding button. The simplicity is brilliant yet offers good depth for those who want to spend time with the game.

As noted, graphics are from the PS1 to N64 era, but look fine on the small screen, particularly in motion. However, just looking at Super Mario 64 DS, I have to believe the graphics could be better. There are regular Exhibition games and a Season Mode. Exhibition games are one shots, and Season Mode allows you to play through the regular and post season with your favorite NFL team. The only glaring problem is the absence of a Franchise Mode. Once you finish your season, and hopefully win the Super Bowl, there really isn’t anything more to do except go back and play the same season again, maybe with a different team. There is some replayability in that you can earn points for completeing Madden Challenges from one season to the next and open up special power up cards that will help you out during your season or during an exhibition game, but that’s about it. Multiplayer is nice as well, but requires that each player have a cartrtidge, which is kind of lame.

The MSRP is a little steep at $39.99, but well worth for the football fan/road warrior out there. Otherwise, it won’t offer anything extra to convince non-football fans to acquire it.
