Strengths: Low price, Decent screen size, Good sound (from headphones), Decent picture quality, Good feature set
Weaknesses: Hard to read text on screen, Unit a bit heavy with battery, Build quality may be an issue. Onboard speakers stink
Summary: First off let me say that I am happy with the unit. I didn't spend that much, and as such, didn't expect that much. I have been plesently surprised by what I did get.

First let me address the weaknesses. The first unit I received, had a bad pixel and I exchanged the unit. This is whay I comment on the build quality. The unit is fairly heavy when the battery is attached. However I figure most of the time I will be carrying the unit in a case, so it's no big deal. My one big gripe, is that it is difficult to read the OSD text as well as any subtitles that may be displayed. The speakers for the unit are completely inadequate. However if you were buying it to use those speakers than you purchased the wrong unit. I fully expected to use headphones, so it doesn't bother me. When connected to the audio jack, my headphones provide excellent audio.

Now to the good. Overall I think the display is good considering the price. 7 inches is about as small a screen as one would want to use. The unit provides crisp viewing and has the ability to adjust both the color and the brightness. This is a big plus. I like the fact that I can switch between aspect ratios with the press of a button on the unit. I don't need to use the remote, unless I choose to. There are features that can only be accessed through the remote, but I have found that the ones I need most are located on the unit. The cost of the unit was rather inexpensive (on sale), which is another plus. The unit has not had any issues playing the DVDs I have put into it. Overall I think it is a good unit for the price.

Strengths: Very easy to use. Remote control is very handy. Battery life is very good. Great for the $$.
Weaknesses: Sound quality isn't the greatest.
Summary: We purchased this product for a long trip to the beach for our 4 1/2 year old and 3 year old. It definitely made the trip more tolerable. I wish they would make longer cigarette ligther adapter chords.

Strengths: Compact, very usable and works with commercial and "burned" DVDs.
Weaknesses: Built-in speakers, as expected, not very usable. Battery hard to attach properly.
Summary: I wanted to "road test" the Polaroid PDV-0700 7" Portable DVD Player before writing this review.

With a trip planned of over 2,000 miles that included my 4 year old daughter, getting a portable DVD player was a necessity in order to maintain the sanity for my wife and myself.

The PDV-0700 passed the test with mostly flying colors! With the purchase of a Case Logic PDVS4 case, installation in our van was easy.

The picture was bright, and as you really want to use headphones for this while travelling, lest you hear the "Dora the Explorer" theme song 100 times, the poor built-in speakers don't matter that much.

The unit is workable without the small, but usable "credit card" remote that is included.

The PDV-0700 readily played both commercial DVDs and "burned" DVDs of the aforementioned "Dora the Explorer" episodes, which are now a road requirement for our family.

I had problems getting the battery "snapped in" place on the bottom of the DVD player, so there were intermittent power problems until I figured the best way to push it into place.

It is advised that the battery not be attached while using the DVD player when powered by the car adaptor, so that makes "in and out" use a bit of a hassle.

It would have been nice for the power cables to have "right angle" connectors into the player.

The PDV-0700 produces a crisp picture, has a long enough battery life to get through most movies, and in the end maintained the sanity of a family of three on a long road trip.

A very affordable unit which gets the job done in a small package.

3 Star ReviewPolaroid Portable DVD player
Strengths: 7" Screen Size, Price. Small Size.
Weaknesses: Build quality.
Summary: This is a nice inexpensive 7" LCD screen portable DVD player that plays many of the formats and discs out there. It is quite inexpensive for its screen size and works as expected. Screen is nice but the build quality doesnt look top notch. But if handled carefully it should work well. I am enjoying it.

Strengths: light weight, display is clear and bright, allows you to plug in two headphones at once
Weaknesses: don't use the built in speakers...get headphones
Summary: I would recommend this unit because I have had no problems with it and I have tried about every feature it has. I had no problem playing music cd's or DVD's from the video store as well as videos backed up to DVD+-R single layer discs. I like the fact that I can hook it up to my TV or surround sound system and use it as my DVD player when I am not using it in the car or air plane. The little credit-card-sized remote control is convenient and works well. The lithium-ion rechargeable battery give pretty decent play time and is a good choice because it has no "memory" effect.

3 Star ReviewA good entry level player
Strengths: Great battery life, good black-level picture, Looks cool. Affordable price.
Weaknesses: Poor audio
Summary: I admit I expected more for the price. The battery life and price of the player is great. The black scenes looked great. The audio, on the other hand is horrible and AV connectivity is limited. For an entry level player, it is strongly recommended.

2 Star ReviewPolaroid PDV-0700 Portable 7" DVD Player
Strengths: Low cost, decent screen size
Weaknesses: poor quality of product
Summary: My mom purchased this for my son, within two months the screen fell off the base. A screw inside the item fell out. The company replaced the item with a brand new, but the contact to which the AC adapter fits into, is so loose that it only charges some of the time. The item is now two years old, and I can no longer charge the battery since the contact for the AC adapater doesn't fuction.

Would have gotten the more expensive DVD player had I know I was going to need to buy a new one in only two years.

My son's friend also received one for Christmas, and his fell apart the same day.
