Strengths: Great Picture when the TV was still working.
Weaknesses: Board went out and lost picture
Summary: I bought this TV based on Hitachi's record of superb reliability and quality and was willing to pay a premium for the TV vs. comparable models from other manufactures. A little over 1 month into owning the TV and one of the electronic boards fails and I can't get a picture.... After 3 weeks, Hitachi finally sends a replacement board (under warranty) to my local authorized repair store (they claim it took so long because it is a new model and they had never seen this problem before... if this is the case, don't make me the guinea pig, send me a replacement TV!!!!!). The replacement board also ends up being faulty (no vertical hold).
I have now been waiting nearly another 2-weeks now for Hitachi to send another board to try (and have since missed both the Super Bowl and half the NCAA basketball season). I have contacted Hitachi's customer service group numerous times by both email and by phone and have received little if any service (typical story line "the new board has been sent and you should be receiving it soon"). You would think Hitachi would do a better job to try to protect their reputation, especially since they charge a huge premium for their TV's vs. comparable Sony models. For these reasons, I WILL NEVER OWN NOR RECOMMEND ANYONE OWNING A HITACHI TV AGAIN!!"
