Strengths: easy install, came with 2 dvd-ram disks w/ caddies, came with powerdvd, writes in a large range of formats.
Weaknesses: single layer (limits to 4.7 gb per side), have to flip dvd to read other side.
Summary: I was able to put DVD files on a DVD-RAM disk, finalize it using UDF 1.02 format and it was readable in an ibm laptop DVD drive.
You can also format the DVD-RAM disk in re-writable format and it appears just like a hard drive on your system and you can drag and drop to it.
The transfer rate is quite good and I was able to x-fer a gig in about 13 minutes or so.
I would reccommend this drive to anyone interested in getting a DVD writer.
The only real downside is that it cannot do double density format (9.4 gb / side), but that media isn't readily available right now anyway.
NOTE - most current movie DVD's are double density single sided, so you will not be able to fully backup/copy your DVD's on this drive.
