Strengths: 27" Screen (many others are 26"); Crisp, clear screen images; QAM; 1600:1 contrast ratio; Firmware upgradable
Weaknesses: Awkward menu; 1 HDMI; buzzing from speakers in low volume
Summary: I'm very impressed with the HD picture quality of this Olevia LCD TV--crisp with vibrant colors in 1600:1 contrast ratio. This is an HD LCD TV for budget-conscientious consumers who want the TV to function as a good PC monitor as well. The screen size of 27" (the majority of HDTVs around this price rage are 26") is perfect for me as I'm placing the unit on my desk for watching TV and DVD movies as well as using it as a PC monitor. In fact, among several HDTVs that I tested (including Samsung, Sony, and Panasonic 26" HDTVs), this Olevia TV LCD screen gives the best, top-notch PC screen quality--fonts and photo images come out crisp and clear on the screen, very easy on the eye. While I'm very satisfied with the purchase, I find three shortcomings of the model: 1) Awkward menu; 2) only one HDMI input; and perhaps this may be potentially a big problem to some, 3) buzzing from speakers. I've read on the Internet about the buzzing issue inherent in all or some Olevia TVs, and this model is of no exception. You can hear low buzzing sounds when the volume of the speakers is low. This could annoy some especially when they use the TV as a PC monitor. Some workarounds for the issue are 1) put it in mute; 2) switch the screen to a "Bright Room" setting; or 3) attach the TV to an external stereo system (so that the built-in speakers are not in use). Perhaps updating the unit with the latest firmware may resolve the audio issue, but I haven't tried yet.
