Strengths: Easy to setup, good signal strength and reasonable price. I've got v3 and it works very well.
Weaknesses: Doesn't have as many features as the router it replaced, a d-link di-764 which died on it's 4th day of service. I don't like the external logging to your hd which requires you to install software.
Summary: I bought this device out of necessity after my brand new d-link di-764 a/b router died on it's 4th day of service but that is another on going story. The linksys was easy to setup although it lacks many of the features of the d-link unit. I'm using d-link pci based a/b adaptors with an external antenna which can be moved to where ever you get the best signal. I found this unit by accident at my local best buy for $62.99 and didn't have to even think twice about buying it. I'll probably look to linksys when I get ready to buy another a/b unit. It hasn't had any interference with my 2.4ghz panasonic phone system which uses fhss. As long as you keep a b network running on channels 1,6 or 11 it shouldn't interfere with your phone system. Incidentally it's the #2 rated router at a certain hardware site's most recent wireless review and at it's current price it's a bargain.

Strengths: Very easy to setup, yes, some times it brain farts, a reset
will ususally cure it. I set 2 of them up at 2 seperate locations with varying PC's runs great.
Weaknesses: Understand the technology, it does not work well with some flourescent lighting, metal filing cabinets & racks. They reflect/deflect signals. The only adapter to buy are the USB, the rest are junk.
Summary: I set 2 units up at 2 seperate Real Estate offices with about 6 pc's in each running off a cable modem. No problems, ran fine, easy setup. Careful with the flashing. If you screw it up your router is toast.( the eprom is corrupt and would have to be replaced) Metal filing cabinets, Flourescent lights affect reception. Use the USB adapters, the rest have extremely poor reception. Tech support is good, BUT, spotty. I spoke to 1 moron, called back and landed a geniuous, 30seconds and we were done.

Strengths: Straight-forward, web-based configuration & setup. Optional integration with ZoneAlarm or Norton firewalls and Trend Micro PC-Cillan. Also parental controls can be enforced by required AOL connection.
Weaknesses: May have some trouble working with built-in wireless or other 3rd party NIC's
Summary: This has been a great product for the past 2 years it has had a uptime of 99+%. The only time connectivity has been lost was due to my cable provider. When that happens I just unplug and re-plug both devices and they come back. The only thing I'm a little sad about is that I paid $279 for the device 2 years ago - it's now at $59!!

Strengths: Easy setup, decent range, great compatibility
Weaknesses: Trouble setting up encryption with Belkin wireless NIC
Summary: So far this unit has given me nothing but great service and reliability. The only issue was the encryption. Since I live in an area with a couple of other computer geeks and some other people who have been known to go find wireless networks that are unsecured and hack them for the fun of it, encryption on my network was a must for atleast some protection. Took a little while to get that working, but after that, no problems since.

Strengths: Cross platform, simple to set up, very effective, built in firewall
Weaknesses: cost
Summary: The linksys wireless unit made setting up my wintel/mac home network incredible easy. It works flawlessly with airport cards, even better than apple's own software base station. Great product.

Strengths: No wiring needed, blocks visibility to the internet, very fast.
Weaknesses: Apparently the range is not as good as the advertisement, and there can be dead spots relatively close to the router
Summary: Installation is straightforward for the PC cards. I have both a PCI card adapter and a USB network card. Both install easily and work as advertised. Setting up the router is actually easy, except the manuals wording can be confusing in a couple of instances. I needed a phone call to Tech support to make the system work. I had set one setting wrong because I assumed that I didn't want to connect to a network. Turns out that connecting to a cable modem is connecting with a network! If I had known that I wouldn't have needed to call Tech Support.
My computers are about 15 and 40 feet respectively from the router. The closer of the two computers is directly above the router and immediately came up full speed. The other computer uses a USB network adapter. It's on the same floor as the router. I originally had it somewhat below the height of the router and I didn't get much above 2 Mb/sec. Nothing I did with the antennae helped. Eventually I placed the USB adapter on a bookshelf and the connection improved and I have a full speed connection. Otherwise I haven't had a problem with the network.
I am very satisfied and would purchase it again unless I had a long distance between the router and the computer. Under that circumstance I would check the return policy.

Strengths: Strong signal, Easy installation + configuration
Weaknesses: Too expansive in Wallmart..$ 68!
Summary: I bought this two weeks ago for dormitory gaming network plus acadmeic purpose. (that's right):)
My dorm has two floors with 6 rooms in each floor. I was able to connect pretty much everyone with wireless network from second floor, middle room. Signal barely reach 2 Mbps with 2 signal bars at the first floor far corner room. However we were able to enjoy starcraft network play with almost no lags.. It was really easy to configure the setting. You just need to go to Web browser and type 192.168.1.1 for default setting. It is also useful to connect exist wire network + wireless network. Two of my computers in my room were wirely attached to the router and we were able to see wire+wireless network. I think this is awesome device. I strongly give this 5 stars.!

I purchase and set up all the networking for mysel ...
Strengths: Easy to operate, great menu system, good for beginning networkers.
Weaknesses: Wireless goes faulty, larger antenna needed for distances that it should be able to handle.
Summary: I purchase and set up all the networking for myself and my girlfriend. She and I have owned a total of 5 of these units with only 2 in use at one time.
I purchased my first Linksys wireless router about 2 years ago and purchased one for my girlfriend not long after. They were very easy to set up, got WEP working with little problems, and everything was running smooth. Within 3 months my router was resetting itself and losing all of its configurations. I figured out, somehow, that if a computer was connected to ports 1 or 2 on the router that it would reset, but if a computer was connected to ports 3 or 4 it wouldn't reset. For a month I lived with this until I finally needed to have it fixed. Called Linksys tech support, which I would rate as average sometimes and excellent others (you get lucky sometimes), and after some resets and power downs they were sending me a new router. Received the "new" (refurbished) router and the wireless was not working at all. Called again and had the 2nd router replaced. The 3rd one worked fine.
1 year and 1 month after I purchased my girlfriend's router, the wireless stopped working. Purchased a new router since it was out of warranty (1 year). The new one works well.
About 1 year and 4 months after I received my refurbished router, the wireless stopped working last week. I hope that Linksys has been able to solve the wireless problems. I am going to read up on 802.11G routers and hopefully Linksys will have improved over the 802.11B quality.

Strengths: Installation was fast and painless. Running Win98 and WinMe I had the network up and running in 30 min.Installation was fast and painless. Running Win98 and WinMe I had the network up and running in 3
Weaknesses: Would like more information on the firewall software.
Summary: Had a previous Linksys router and upgraded to wireless. Didn’t have any problems getting the system up and running. I’m using two WPC11 V2.5 (They have a new version for XP V 3) for Win98 and WinMe and one desktop WinMe directly on the router. Total of three computers and I like the product. Installation was great, I would preferred more information on the options on there firewall product. The signal on the laptop varies if you are not using AC. The stronger the battery the better signal you get. Had a previous Linksys router and upgraded to wireless. Didn’t have any problems getting the system up and running. DO NOT INSTALL FIRMWARE FROM LINKSYS.COM unless it ...
Strengths: Easy Installation, very good switch
Weaknesses: must be reset often, horrible reception for wireless
Summary: DO NOT INSTALL FIRMWARE FROM LINKSYS.COM unless it is above 1.40. It installed very easily. The web based management is horrible, sometimes you must reboot just to get to the router settings. Tech support is very good. I flashed the memory with the linksys.com upgrade and it totally nuked the router in 3 seperate routers. Once you flash it, the unit is dead, resetting it with the reset key does not work. I told linksys about this and the same flash still remains on their website. The router works well, then it simply quits working, only by powering off the unit does it regain function. Works great if you use the ethernet switch, wireless is useless over 50 ft away or 1 story below and over 30 ft away. Gamers and ICQ need to enable DMZ, otherwise it will not allow it through. Pretty secure as long as you enable WEP and change the default network group. I would not buy this product, wait till someone else comes out with 4 port switch and wireless and their own software to power the router.

Strengths: Easy to setup and use. Fast network response.
Weaknesses: Must set static ip to upgrade firmware.
Summary: I switched to this router from a netgear mr814 because the netgear hardware wouldn't even work with my verizon dsl. After a minor glitch with a firmware upgrade (see weaknesses), I was set up in less than 10 minutes. The web browsing response is lighting quick after eack mouse click. Overall I'm very pleased with this linksys product. Great hardware for a decent price. Oh and make sure you get version 2 of this router. Version 1 had some bugs.

Strengths: Easy setup, easy bios upgrades, clean configuration interface, dual wireless antennas, highly configurable
Weaknesses: Router would "freeze" the network or slow down before the 1.5x bios upgrade
Summary: It's really simple, this device delivers once configured properly. I'm using my unit with a D-link 8 port switch and they're working great. True plug and play performance between the two. Make sure you update the firmware asap and you'll be fine.

I bought this router to connect 2 PCS and one lapt ...
Strengths: none
Weaknesses: Drops internet connection every minute or so.
Summary: I bought this router to connect 2 PCS and one laptop. All 3 computers drop their connection every few minutes. I called Linksys, they blamed my ISP. I told them that the connection worked fine if I just connected to my old router, and that the problem only happened when I used the linksys. They finally told me to return it. Of course by now I didn't have the receipt because I sent it to Linksys for a rebate.
--That's where I'm at now. Still trying to figure out how to exchange this thing or something.

Strengths: ease of setup
Weaknesses: none
Summary: I tell you. I was worried when my Linksys B router showed up. I had just purchased a Linksys WPC11 ver. 3 card for my Dell Inpsiron 5000 machine running win 98 and it would not install (code 10 error). Tech support said there was some card bus incompatiblity. Picked up a CompUSA brand for half the cost and it installed perfectly. Prior to my recieving the router I plowed through the many reviews and I started to get even more worried. As you can imagine I didn't have high expectations for the Linksys router that arrived.
I read the instructions (highly reccommended, make sure you get the proper host and domain names prior to installation).
I started the the installation and quess what I was up and running in about 20 minutes.
I want to let you know that when it comes to working on computers I am a novice (looking over my net admin shoulder helps has helped). Anyway I thought I would put that in there because you can't tell in some of the bad reviews the computer knowledge level of the installers.
Enjoy.
I gave it a v
