Strengths: Clean and simple design.
Lots of features and options to customize.
Great sound and MP3 function & navigation.
Built in Hi/Lo Pass crossovers & various inputs.
Remote is perfect size and useful.
Weaknesses: Nobs are a little difficult to grip with large fingers.
Display is nothing spectacular, but matches overall design.
Difficult to set up for people unfamiliar with Kenwood.
Summary: I waited a while before purchasing a new deck for my Camry, deciding to do my research and shop around. I ended up purchasing this deck from Fry's for only $100.
It is currently set up with a small 300W amp and a 12in. Polk subwoofer. The bass it produces is amazing and the options allow for so much customization. I have all the lows going to my subwoofer, which provides a deep hard hitting bass. All the highs are sent to my four stock speakers and two tweeters, this creates NO distortion from the speakers and produces crisp clear vocals/highs.
Setting up this deck takes a while. Since there are so few buttons, most buttons have several functions. You must use the manual while setting it up, but i found this part really fun since you can create the perfect sound for your car. The lack of lots of buttons creates a really simple and elegant look. This deck matches a lot of interiors, especially old school cars, and it lights up red or green.
The display is not flashy like most of the new displays, but it does its job and is easy to read in all lighting. Plus, when are you actually gonna look at the flashy crap on the new decks whilst driving?
The included remote is a thing of beauty. It is the perfect size, fitting firmly in your palm. It is actually shaped like a normal TV remote but with more contours. It fits/works a lot better than those crappy credit card remotes that new decks come with and it uses AAA batteries, which are more commonly used in regular life than those expensive watch batteries.
Overall, this is a great deck that I would highly recommend for a price up to $200. It looks great and performs even better. In total I spent only $150 for my entire audio set up and it sounds so much better than other's that spend 300-400 with 400W amps and whatnot. Thanks and I hope this was somewhat helpful.
