Strengths: Very accurate and fast alerts of radar ahead.
Weaknesses: No direction indicator
Summary: I have this for 2 weeks to replace my 3 years old Bel detector and it saved me twice from getting the ticket. Excellent in warning radar ahead, many times before I can even see the police car which is ideal since you can slow down before approach them. Wish to have the direction indicator like the Valentine 1 because it saves you the trouble of looking 360 degree to see where the police is. 4.5 stars from me.

Strengths: It works! Design is also nice - good alert tones, easily programmable. Auto mute and mute button are both great functions.
Weaknesses: If left in direct sunlight on a hot day it will stop working for a while until it cools off.
I would rather get more mounting accessories with the unit instead of the fancy box.
Summary: I spent a good bit of time researching detectors. The 8500 X50 is the one I chose. The only features available that this one does not have are directional indications of the radar source and GPS to learn and ignore false signals. For me, either of those would be nice but are not worth how much they cost you. I ordered the straight (like phone line) cable and a visor clip and ran the cable up the side and over to the visor. I like this a lot because it keeps it out of plane view of cops, tagalongs and crackheads. It also keeps it out of direct sunlight. You know you want it. Just buy it!

Strengths: Very reliable. I really like the manuel mute button on the lighter adapter
Weaknesses: I does go off in city driving, but that's because I haven't program it yet.
Summary: All I can say is that this is a ticket saver. I know I would have gone to traffic school again. It has paid itself off already from the ticket that I would have gotten. I'm a speeder, always have been. PriceGrabber...Thank You. Sincerely Yours
A Very Satisfied Customer

Strengths: Best radar detector I have ever bought.
Weaknesses: That it is not a jammer
Summary: This is the best detector I have ever purchased. I owned a Cobra before but it never gave me the range this has. the detector starts beeping long before the cop is anywhere in site.

Save your $$$$
Strengths: As good as 8500, I love my 8500
Weaknesses: No improvements over 8500 to justify high cost
Summary: I own the 8500 and bought the x50 for my fiancee and we just returned from a 1000 mile trip through some of the most tenacious states for radar traps and I have to say that the x50 was a great DISAPPOINTMENT especially for the hefty price tag. Operating both units side by side for the entire trip my 8500 performed as well as the x50. That is to say that the x50 despite its claims did NO BETTER or no worse than my 3 year old 8500 unit. Both units have the same features with the exception of POP which is not in wide spread use as of this posting. Unless you are color blind or must have a blue display to be the cool guy or gal then go with the x50 otherwise save a few bucks and get the 8500 or keep the dough in your pocket and stick with your current 8500 until Passport comes out with a unit that is worthy of its price tag.

Strengths: Quiet. You almost wish it goes off because you want to hear it. Awesome at picking up KA band instant on units. Programable features lets you turn off all X band (unless you live in Ohio). Smart cord.
Weaknesses: None that I have seen
Summary: Put it side by side with my little brothers Valentine One, his kept chirping, I never could tell the difference between tones on his, the X-50 beat his on Both Ka and K bands. The X-50 does not cry wolf. As a professional truck driver I have logged over a million miles. I have seen every type of speed trap there is. For rolling radar coming at you, there is none better except maybe the new Bell pro-something.

Strengths: Effective against instant on K & Ka. Many modes. Mute button on power cord useful in vehicles where reaching the windshield isn't possible.
Weaknesses: Falses in city and near all supermarkets, minor issues with window mount in extremely cold weather otherwise very sturdy.
Summary: The long range detection of this device is amazing. Vermont state troopers use instant-on K, and the Sheriffs use both instant-on and continuous Ka band. When I hear a little blip of either I know that I am picking up a officer sampling traffic up ahead. Everytime I've come over the hill or around the bend, sure enough I get blasted full strength. Pay attention to the weak signals! I took it to a city that uses red light cams and the X signals were haywire. The DSP did not filter any out in Auto mode as I though it was supposed to. All in all it has been very effective for me despite the falses. Listening to noise at times is much better than insurance points any day. The manual has description of different radar warning patterns. This helps the user determine where a cop might be as well as the type of radar being used(instant-on vs continuous)

Strengths: Very accurate and far detections.
Weaknesses: Expensive, but worth it!
Summary: This by far is the best redar detector I have owned. It detects approximately a mile before I see the source. You won't regret buying it. The little controller by the cigarette lighter port is also nice to able to mute the sound while you're talking on the phone and such. Bottom line, if you're getting a radar detector, get this one!

Strengths: I really like the styling of this detector. It also has a fast response time when detecting.
Weaknesses: None that I can see.
Summary: I would definately buy this product again. It is very good for the money and has outstanding detetction capabilities. you cannot go wrong with the Passport 8500.

Strengths: High quality, excellent performance.
Weaknesses: none
Summary: It saved me around 3000+ in fines so far, so this detector has excellent ROI (return on investment). It is worth every single penny I have spent on them (I own 2 units - one for each car).

Strengths: Overall satisfaction with product is high. Saved me from a ticket on 1 day. Highly recommend
Weaknesses: No directional icons on unit
Summary: Friend told me about this unit and I did not believe him, but after the first day I already had save me from a ticket. RED is nice if it matches your interior lighting [may want to consider blue - but it is more expensive]. Did a lot of research on radars and this is even better than valentine one. Only real compliant is that there is No directional icons on unit

Strengths: Can be combined with ZR3 Shifter, few false alarms, Great KA
Weaknesses: Volume...does not completely turn off, not very loud when you have music cranked up
Summary: I have the Blue unit linked to my ZR3 shifter and I have to say this combo works great. I wish it had directionals like the V1 but hey. All good detectors are worth the cost because if they save you from one ticket its paid for itself....

Strengths: SEEMS TO WORK VERY WELL.
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: FIRST DAY IT FOUND TWO INCIDENTS OF RADAR. I AM SURE IN AT LEAST ONE OF THEM I WOULD HAVE BEEN TICKETED. IT WAS A PLACE THE POLICE USUALLY SIT AND WAIT FOR SPEEDERS.

Strengths: Great little detector, saved me from several tickets.
Weaknesses: No arrows, false alarms, but you'll have that with any detector.
Summary: Wow! this thing works wonders, and i love the red since it mathes my interior lighting. Only problem is that it has false alarms, and no arrows. But very helpful.

I have owned this detector for only about a month, ...
Strengths: have not had a chance to experience them yet
Weaknesses: A LOT of false alarms, x - band and k-band, are triggered at every light and constant beeping when driving in or by the city area
Summary: I have owned this detector for only about a month, and so far have not encountered any speed traps. Hopefully, when I do, the expansive and highly hyped up Passport 8500 will earn its keep. Until now, however, there is a lot of chirping of the x and k-band, which can get quiet annoying. Thankfully there is a mute button on the base of the cord, which silences the alarm until a new source triggers it again.
