2 Star ReviewPissed
Strengths: Nice and bright at the beginning of its short life
Weaknesses: Burns out very quickly
Summary: I purchased an AE700U projector based on the rave reviews and the advertised 3000 hour lamp life on low setting. I got just a little over 1000 hours out of mine before it went out. I am hoping this expensive replacement lamp will do a little better but I am not banking on it due to all the other reviews I have read with other users experiencing the same problem.

Strengths: Picture is awesome!
Weaknesses: Who wants to spend $300 - $400 to replace a lamp, but it's a necessary downside.
Summary: My projector is set on economy mode. I have it mounted on the ceiling in my basement theater. I have a 7' diagonal screen. Have been cleaning the air filter approximately ever 3 to 6 months (which is very simple to do). I've currently got 2100 hours on my lamp and it's still running like it did the day I bought it. I'm just starting to shop around for a replacement lamp and filter so that I am prepared. Almost 2 years and I haven't had a problem with it at all.

2 Star Reviewnot even close to marketing hype
Strengths: Ran great for first 500 hours of operation. Bright enough for my screen and viewing conditions even in low mode.
Weaknesses: Burned out after only 700 hours of usage.
Summary: Always had projector on for at least one movie, cleaned air filter, and ran in low power mode. So I did everything to prolong the life of the lamp and now this disappointing result. Not even close to 3000 hours. I would have been happy with just 1500 hours, but I didn't even get half of that.

Strengths: Good brightness for home theater, sharp picture and plenty of connectivity (component, VGA, HDMI, S-Video, Composite), and ZOOM LENS WITH SHIFT
Weaknesses: Panasonic should have left out the power switch. It's turning that little toggle-switch on and off during operation that will kill the bulb.
Summary: I also experienced bulb-life issues for the first bulb. I've already surpassed that 600-hour limit on our second bulb, by not letting anybody even TOUCH the little toggle-switch on the back of the unit. Despite the improvements in the latest PT-AX100U (brighter bulb/image, more contrast, etc.) my "old" PT-AE700U is still an excellent piece of video hardware, and friends are still impressed on movie night!

Strengths: In stock, at a very good price, good cross-reference to help find others
Weaknesses: none
Summary: In stock, at a very good price, good cross-reference to help find others.

They have a spec search where you can find by watts or volts.

Use the cross-reference to find by model number and manufacturer.

1 Star ReviewFeeling a little duped
Strengths: BEAUTIFUL PICTURE...in the beginning
Weaknesses: One word....LAMP
Summary: I owned my projector about 2 years before I installed it. I couldn't wait for my theater room to be completed. Since I opened my theater room last summer, I haven't seen ONE movie at a public movie house. Everyone knows that Friday is movie-at-my-house night. I am at approximately 350 hours and POP!!! Not only am I embarrassed but I'm pissed. How do you get 10% of the manufacturer' estimated lamp-life? This is ridiculous!

1 Star ReviewPathetic Bulb Life
Strengths: Great Picture for a while
Weaknesses: Bulb non-life
Summary: The stated 3000 hrs bulb life is totally bogus. Mine went dim all at once after 597hrs. It still looked good if the room was pitch black. Before I could have half the lights on in the room and the picture was fine. Twenty hours later the bulb blew, Now no picture! The stated life from the review that I've seen "should" be 600 hours. How ridiculous, too bad I can't get my money back for this piece of garbage! No more Panasonic for me!

Strengths: Accurate video out of the box. Flexible inputs, good price/performance point, been very reliable for 2 years.
Weaknesses: Brightness loss over 2500 hours, and an odd brightness change during viewing (most people don't even notice it though). Minor vertical banding that disappears when fully warmed up.
Summary: I see many short bulb life complaints in these reviews. I'm getting ready for my first lamp change (2950 hrs and counting) I see no reason that it won't exceed 3000 hrs other than loosing brightness. Projector has been in place for 25 months with only filter and lens cleaning. The multiple short lived lamp reviews seem to dominate here, and I just wanted to say that not all lamps have so short a life. These are projector lamps NOT incandescent light bulbs that we're talking about here. Treated as such, they work as the manufacturer stated.

1 Star ReviewLamp life extremely poor on Panasonic PT-AE700U
Strengths: Started out great and truely enjoyed watching movies with my grandchildren. They always want to go to grandpas and watch a movie on the wall.
Weaknesses: Life of lamp under 500 hours.
Summary: When I noticed the lamp output starting to dim I checked the owners manual to make sure all of the settings were in econ mode. All checked out. It talked about various lights coming on if there was a problem. No lights had come on.

While watching a movie we heard a loud pop coming from the projector. Obviously the bulb blew out. Haven't been inside the machine to ascertain the damage, but very disappointed in performance. I bought Panasonic because I thought I was getting quality. Under 500 hours for a 3,000 hour rated bulb makes for very expensive viewing.

Strengths: Great picture in its early life
Weaknesses: Bulb failure
Summary: The picture grew dim despite all of my attempts to adjust the picture and troubleshoot. I found out from others on the internet that bulb failure is any day now. I only got 900 hours out of the 3000 Panasonic boast about. How about a class action suite. Anybody in?

Strengths: Good picture when in a dark room.
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: 2007-06-04 01:22:53 - Bought my AE700 in Dec 2004. Now at 900 hours usage, still OK.

- I project a 120" diagonal image with an OPPO 971H dvd player.

- I am using cinema 1 mode 99% of the time (a totally darkened room helps a lot)

- Using eco mode, low fan mode, dynamic iris off (used to be on)

- I vacuum filter every 100hours as stated in the manual.

- Ceiling mounted (so it doesn't move at all after a power down/cool down when unit is still warm/hot inside).

- UPS protected (only once was the pj not cooled down properly).

- Two levels of electrical surge protection.

- Power outlet is properly grounded (3 prong)

- I never use longer than 5 hours straight, even though manual said 10 hrs is ok.

- I rest it for ~1 hour before restarting within the day.

- Room aircon is running at 22-24C most of the time when projector in use, it has an additional air filter installed as well aside from the default aircon filter.

Strengths: AE-700U has a great picture. Lamp life is better than expected.
Weaknesses: Bad reviews make me concerned about purchasing a replacement lamp.
Summary: So far, I've owned my projector with the original lamp for 3 years without a problem. I'm preparing to purchase a backup lamp so that I have it "in stock" when this lamp finally dies. I run the lamp in economy/low mode with a high fan and I always use the remote to turn on/off the projector (I never use the switch on the back since that would turn off the power supply to the fan, the projector's fan stays on after I turn off the bulb so that it can cool the projector/lamp efficiently/evenly. I'm running at 2500+ hours so far (sometimes my kids leave the projector on over night) and the picture is still fine and the lamp is humming along. I'm looking forward to even longer life lamps (will LEDs ever be strong enough?) but I'm happy with this purchase.
