Strengths: Very fast, excellent dvd reproduction
Weaknesses: none
Summary: The silver model was $10 less than the beige or black models but I think it looks just fine. Works very well on single layer dvd discs.

Strengths: Burned 50 DVD's @ 8x with no coasters
Weaknesses: None
Summary: Easy installation. Be sure to use a 80 wire IDE cable for maximum performance. I used Ritek 8x DVD-R and TEON 8x DVD-R. Not one problem. I cant wait to try 16x and dual layer media.

Strengths: Quiet Drive Tech.
Weaknesses: Software Bundle
Summary: Great drive. DVD ripping speeds are greatly increased with QuietDrive Tech. installed (a quick download from Pioneer's site. While there get latest firmware!)

Software bundle is OK, but for best results use Nero 6.3.

Very easy install. With this drive, you will be ready for DL media (whenever it comes out and is affordable)and 16X media(ditto). Good burns at 12X and the writing quality is superior to most other drives. 16X is DVD's maxed out speed so don't wait for anything faster!

No coasters yet!

Strengths: 1) Nice clean burns 2) Full DMA support and available software suite not bad (Ulead DVD Movie Factory Suite, PhotoExpress and NovaBackup) 3) Super-quiet - absolutely no spin-up noise!
Weaknesses: 1) No IDE cable, No Audio Cable, all software on one disk, NO Nero Suite! 2) No digital audio out, only analog port 3) Access times 1.5 times slower than normal CD/RW or other DVD/RWs.
Summary: Overall, a good purchase. From J&R for $130 - $30 rebate = $100 for retail drive.

Look at reviews from anandtech etc. - the access times are quite slow. E.g. with their own software CD, took about 12 seconds from insert time for it to recognize drive and contents to appear in Windows Explorer. Took only 8 seconds on a normal CDR.

Wish they bundled Nero Suite - photo explorer that comes with the drive has to be manually added to Start Menu!

Would recommend it still though since it is a Pioneer make and extremely reliable - have owned a DVR-103 for the past few years without any problems. Also from the reviews and from personal experience, the burns on this drive are super-clean.

Strengths: Works with Nero CD-R software, quiet, fast, good product.
Weaknesses: Wasted 1 blank DVD disk but it was probably my own mistake
Summary: I had a total of 42 data-filled CD's. I bought this product and it reduced the amound of discs to 4 in a matter of about 5 minutes per DVD disc. It's very quiet, you'd think it wasn't working, but it is. It's state-of-the-art technology and I consider it to be the best.

1 Star ReviewThis is completely the same product with same comp ...
Strengths: Well designed front side.
Weaknesses: This is 16x only after 4GB. So it's almost a fraud to say 'this is 16X drive'
Summary: This is completely the same product with same company's DVR-108. But quite more expensive and it shows 16X speed only after 4GB. I don't recommend this drive and suggest you to look at NEC or Lite-on's 16X model.

3 Star ReviewOverall I am satisfied with this product in terms ...
Strengths: The set up went without complications and the running is very silent.
Weaknesses: There was no manual in the box and I had to manually adjust my PC for the device to fit into the slot.
Summary: Overall I am satisfied with this product in terms of the price in accordance with its abilities. I was, however, disappointed to find that the box in which it came contained the drive with no written manual for installation. Also, when installing the drive, I had to saw the sides of the slot of my Dell Dimension 8100 for it to fit in.

Strengths: Easy install/burns. No problems. Bundled software a plus. No coasters. Burned my Ridata DVD-R 8x disk at 12x! This burner is solid and has gotten rave reviews on several DVD messageboards.
Weaknesses: None yet. Haven't tried DL media, waiting for price to drop on those.
Summary: Pleased so far. Great price! You can always check the firmware upgrades to speed up the burning on these drives. Pioneer has always been firmware friendly.
