Strengths: Plenty of power, good balance in the hand, several clutch settings.
Weaknesses: Could use more driver bit holders on the frame. Case needs more room to carry drill and driver bits. FW/REV switch to sensitive.
Summary: I bought this drill to replace my 10 year old 9.6 drill from a different manufacturer. So far this has been a great replacement. Plenty of power and speed. I have yet to
drain down a battery pack in one day or stall the motor drilling holes. Ratchet clutch holds bits tight, although it did loosen on me once while driving screws.
The frame needs a couple more clips to hold driver bits while you carry the drill from task to task.
The forward/lock/reverse switch is pretty sensitive and in a bad location. I have inadvertently moved it several times while just shifting the drill in my hand. A thumb activated FW/REV switch on the high back would be better.
The plastic carrying case needs more free space to store drill and driver bit kits. There's room for a handful of loose bits but not for multi-bit kits.
For the same money I considered getting a
Factory-Reconditioned DC920KAR XRP 18-Volt Cordless Drill/Driver Kit, but opted for the smaller and slightly lighter DC728. Still happy with the choice.
