Strengths: High visibility even with fair amount of ambient light, does dark scenes well, great color, imputs, cost
Weaknesses: Mounting holes (takes M4 metric screws), very little else
Summary: I have upgraded to this model from the Optoma EP-719. I use this projector mostly for HD with Dish Network, and with my XBox 360.
After some minor settings changes in the menus, I have a fantastic picture that is 10' wide. This projector is "bright".
My old EP-719 had problems with mild ambient light, and definitely had difficulty with dark scenes on DVDs.
These problems are gone with the HC1500. I bought a bulb warranty for $128 which will provide me replacements for 3 years. I highly suggest that you buy one with your projector.
Please note this however as I have not seen this in ANY review so far: The projector is noticeably darker when projecting the image upside down (hanging from ceiling). It may have something to do with the inversion process.
I would highly suggest this projector for your HD TV/Movie/Gaming needs.
